Ohio auto mechanic Doug Pelmear claims that he has altered his 1987 Ford Mustang to get 110 miles for each gallon of gas. Pelmear also claims that the car can travel over 100 miles an hour, and can go from zero to 60 in three seconds. Pelmear refuses to reveal his secret, he claims, because he is awaiting patents for his technologies.¹

Pelmear claims that the engine in his Ford Mustang was first invented by his grandfather sixty years ago. His engine, he claims, burns gasoline, but because it has been made highly efficient through electronics, it can achieve excellent gas mileage. Pelmear has entered his vehicle in the contest for the Progressive Automotive X Prize, a $10 million award given to the individual or company that can invent a car that is affordable, marketable, and gets over 100 miles per gallon.¹
