History
Denver started as a mining town during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush. Soon it became a frontier town where local miners kept the economy up with gambling, saloons, livestock and goods trading. Denver was given the nick name Mile High City because the city is exactly one mile above sea level. Only 15 miles from the Rocky Mountains, Denver is also home to one of the United States Mint companies. It is said that Denver makes more of the worlds money than any other mint company, check your coins, if there is a D on it, it came from Denver.
