Warner Bros. says The Dark Knight, the latest installment of the Batman franchise, made $155.34 million in its opening weekend, topping the previous record held by 2007's Spider-Man 3.1
The film, which opened on July 18, 2008, screened on more North American movie screens in its first weekend than any previous film.2 Ticket sales to the midnight screenings broke the previous record, set by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, by over $2 million.3
