American Wife
Curtis Sittenfeld's 2008 fiction novel, American Wife, is believed by some to be a "thinly veiled" account of first lady Laura Bush's life. In the book, librarian Alice Blackwell falls in love with the son of a prominent Republican family. Charlie Blackwell eventually becomes the president of the United States.5 Sittenfeld says Laura Bush was an inspiration for the main character, but denies Alice Blackwell is actually Mrs. Bush.6
