Crown Royal Bandit

Bruce Allen Hughes aka The Crown Royal Bandit was charged with committing 28 armed robberies in North Georgia and Tennessee over 11 years. Hughes earned the moniker Crown Royal Bandit after witnesses said he smelled like alcohol and carried his loot out in a purple velvet Crown Royal bag.

On March 5, 2008, Hughes was arrested after a citizen gave Madison County, Georgia police a tip. A search warrant was issued, and Hughes was found in the apartment of his girlfriend.

The Crown Royal Bandit was indicted on April 15, 2008; and charged with conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, three counts of armed bank robbery and four counts of use and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent felony.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of 4 terms of life in prison and 110 years in prison with an additional fine of $2.5 million. Fast Facts:
