Guide Note

Folk rock artists Crosby, Stills & Nash (and Young) had top 20 hit singles such as "Teach Your Children," "Our House" and "Southern Cross." They were admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 noted as an integral part of American rock history.

The Creation

David Crosby of The Byrds, Graham Nash of The Hollies and Stephen Stills of Buffalo Springfield joined after discontent with their current bands. Neil Young was added to the lineup after Steve Winwood declined the invitation. Their second live show as a full group was played at the Woodstock Music Festival in the summer of 1969. Their second album Deja Vu broke records with over two million pre-orders.

The Demise

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young tried to record an album in late 1970 with no success. Each member of the group released solo albums in 1970 and 1971 after creative tensions drove them apart.

The group produced 4 albums with Neil Young, and five since, including a reunion album in 1988.
