Guide Note:

Conference USA was formed in 1995 when two college athletic conferences, the Metro Conference and the Great Midwest Conference, decided to merge together. Originally, the league was founded with 6 football playing members: Cincinnati, Houston, Louisville, Memphis, Southern Miss, and Tulane. In 1997, East Carolina joined the league. In 1998, Army joined the league. In 1999, UAB joined the league. In 2001, TCU joined the league. In 2003, South Florida joined the league. Then major changes happened in 2005. Three schools, Cincinnati, Louisville, and South Florida left for the Big East Conference, while TCU joined the Mountain West Conference, and Army dropped out of the league to play as an independent. In order to combat this, the league acquired six new schools as conference members: Marshall, Rice, SMU, Tulsa, and UTEP as full-fledged members, while also gaining UCF as a football-only member.
