Clint Malarchuk
Guide Note: Clint Malarchuk is a former professional hockey player. He was goaltender and played in the NHL for the Buffalo Sabres, Quebec Nordiques, and Washington Capitals. He is best remembered for an incident during a game in which a goalmouth collision resulted in a skate blade cutting Malarchuk's neck, which sliced his internal carotid artery. Malarchuk nearly died in the incident, and needed over 300 stitches to close the wound. The NHL immediately instituted a new equipment policy requiring all goaltenders to wear protective neck gear.
