- 12:51 PM ET: Norton wrapped up her inquiry by stating that Clemens was, "...surely going to heaven." And with that, Waxman gaveled the session closed.
- 12:47 PM ET: Norton indicates that a company owned by McNamee may have used Clemens' likeness for advertising. She asks about why Clemens continued to employee McNamee with these events.
- 12:45 PM ET: Norton is inquiring with Clemens about his trusting McNamee as a friend and confidant. She asks if he was on "good terms" until Clemens learned that McNamee was testifying with the Mitchell Report. He indicates that this was true.
- 12:44 PM ET: Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) now has 5 minutes
- 12:43 PM ET: Both of the lawyers for Clemens are now standing and arguing with the Waxman.
- 12:37 PM ET: Waxman is inquiring about the former nanny of Clemens and that the Clemens legal team did not provide the information about this person's name or whereabouts. They finally were provided the information, and the nanny indicated that Clemens legal team contacted her, intimating that the legal team has induced testimony. Clemens attorney then stood up and argued with Waxman before being ordered to sit down. Waxman then indicates that this raises an ethical question.
- 12:36 PM ET: Waxman now is questioning Clemens and asking him to clarify whether or not the statements about his attending the party at Canseco's house is accurate
- 12:35 PM ET: Clay inquires if McNamee has a deal in place with prosecutors for his testimony, to which McNamee indicates he does not.
- 12:31 PM ET: Clay asks Clemens, "...can you look at the children of America and state unequivocally that he never cheated." Clemens answer: "I have never cheated...I have never used anything illegal to gain an advantage...the values that I and my family have are essential to my character...I worked hard to gain everything I earned in baseball..."
- 12:30 PM ET: Wm. Lacy Clay (D-MO) now has 5 minutes
- 12:26 PM ET: Souder further asks about whether the evidence McNamee has submitted is irrefutable about Clemens usage of steroids and the presence of DNA evidence. Souder then finishes with a scathing commentary about drug abuse in baseball and the "wall of silence in baseball."
- 12:24 PM ET: Souder asks McNamee about David Cone, player rep at the time, about a quote from McNamee's testimony that, "...the owners know that this is a non-issue and wanted to cover this up..."
- 12:23 PM ET: Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) now has 5 minutes
- 12:18 PM ET: Maloney asks why Clemens didn't meet with Mitchell prior to the release of the Mitchell Report... his explanation to 60 Minutes was different than his original deposition to the committee... Clemens claims he was "never told by his agent/attorney that his presence was requested..." and that he, "has not fired them".
- 12:17 PM ET: Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) now has 5 minutes
- 12:13 PM ET: McNamee indicates that he also injected testosterone and describes the color of the various injections. Clemens is asked about the color of the B-12 injections.
- 12:12 PM ET: Mica asks McNamee about his "physical evidence" of Clemens using a syringe to inject HGH, which McNamee indicates includes, "a blood stained gauze pad..."
- 12:11 PM ET: Rep. John Mica (R-FL) now has 5 minutes
- 12:08 PM ET: Scheeler indicates about the Canseco party and the fact that several current players were not made available to testify about it.
- 12:04 PM ET: Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-PA) now has 5 minutes and is inquiring about the Mitchell Report with Charlie Scheeler, an attorney who worked on it. He is asked about every fact in the report being truthful, and is asked about the Canseco house party and it's validity.
- 12:01 PM ET: McNamee is still be asked about the prevalence of usage of steroids and his knowledge of it and his distribution of it
- 11:59 AM ET: Davis continues to ask McNamee about how other training and medical staff didn't recall the abscess, but that only McNamee did
- 11:55 AM ET: Davis is now questioning McNamee about an abscess suffered by Clemens and the removal of Winstrol from his personal effects, and also inquires about a 1998 injection that was "botched". McNamee is trying to confirm the dates of these injections.
- 11:53 AM ET: The various committee members are asking for other reviews of these reports to be admitted into evidence and Davis indicated that the introduction of these medical reports was, "a new definition of lynching."
- 11:48 AM ET: The attorney for Clemens attempts to directly make inquiries to the committee, but is denied that opportunity and is advised to consult his client to answer questions only. He asks Clemens to explain that the report from a physician is false. Clemens states that he fully cooperated with all medical staffs, and that he "was given a bad shot..."
- 11:42 AM ET: Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) now has 15 minutes... after several minutes of re-reading prior testimony by Clemens, he is trying to be specific about an injury report in which Clemens suffered an injury due to a "...prior attempted intramuscular injection."
- 11:41 AM ET: Burton yields the rest of his time after finishing that McNamee should prosecuted for his lying under oath to federal investigators
- 11:38 AM ET: Burton continues to hammer away at McNamee's statements in the past: "...I do not have any involvement of obtaining it, selling it, or administering it..."
- 11:32 AM ET: Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) now has 15 minutes... he is attacking the credibility of McNamee. He then inquires of Clemens about the testimony being offered by McNamee as truthful.
- 11:29 AM ET: Clemens deposition about HGH: "...no, I haven't researched it, I couldn't tell you the first thing about it..." which Clemens tries to explain about his wife having a reaction to "medication" she took... and that she was having circulation problems, but that Clemens never investigated with their family doctors further.
- 11:27 AM ET: Tierney continues to hammer away about the conflicting testimony
- 11:24 AM ET: Testimony further states about McNamee, "...injecting Mrs. Clemens with HGH in your (Clemens) bedroom in 2004..." and that he was misleading the committee in his various testimonies. Clemens denies purposefully misleading the committee, stating that he, "...never had specific detailed conversations about HGH..."
- 11:23 AM ET: Tierney inquires about truthful answers in Clemens deposition to the committee about conversations he had with McNamee, and that he gave different accounts.
- 11:21 AM ET: Rep. John Tierney (D-MA) now has 15 minutes and is asking McNamee about two instances in which McNamee misled federal prosecutors and investigators about steroids usage. McNamee indicates that he did mislead them in the past. Tierney then turns his credibility questions to Clemens.
- 11:18 AM ET: Davis indicates they've spoken with several medical experts about the effects of taking B-12 shots and asked Clemens to discuss that regiment. McNamee, "...the first time I ever heard of Roger Clemens taking B-1 shots was on 60 Minutes."
- 11:14 AM ET: Davis inquires about a party that McNamee testified about the first time he was approached by Clemens at a 1998 Toronto Blue Jays party hosted by Jose Canseco in Miami during a series against the Florida Marlins - Davis indicates several people didn't recollect Clemens attending this party... McNamee reiterates his story that the nanny and children of Roger Clemens were at the house party. Clemens states he was playing golf that day.
- 11:09 AM ET: McNamee asked about, "...Clemens bleeding through his designer pants after taking growth hormones..." and Davis indicated that former teammate Mike Stanton noticed this. McNamee: "My best recollection is that Clemens started using specific band-aids... and that Clemens stated to Stanton that 'I'll do whatever it does to get an edge on the mound...' in response to the bleeding, and that Stanton used steroids..."
- 11:08 AM ET: McNamee indicates that he, "...knew he was being taped..." and purposely didn't state that he was forced to tell the truth during the phone call.
- 11:07 AM ET: Clemens is asked by Davis about the January 4, 2008 phone call between he and McNamee.
- 11:04 AM ET: Tom Davis now has 15 minutes...he is asking McNamee about the "rise in the number of athletes that were using steroids and HGH in the 5 different sessions where there were inquiries made..." and McNamee states, "...there were specific types of regiments...I can't be accurate...I had more time to contemplate usage with each time I met with prosecutors and the Mitchell Report committee...I did not keep records."
- 11:02 AM ET: Clemens continues to deny using HGH and denies that his wife used HGH.
- 11:00 AM ET: Further in the Pettitte written deposition states, "...I had a conversation in 2005 with Roger about HGH use...and he stated that it was his wife, Debbie Clemens, used HGH..."
- 10:57 AM ET: Pettitte submitted a written deposition in which he states that, "in 1999, Roger Clemens admitted to me he used HGH... that it helped the body recover." Pettitte's wife also states that, "my husband had a conversation with Roger Clemens with in which he stated that Roger used HGH..."
- 10:54 AM ET: Clemens continues to answer and speaks about their using an ephedrine based product in 2004... a follow-up question asks him to confirm whether Clemens thought that Pettitte was lying under oath in his testimony to the committee, and Clemens continues to stay with the "...Andy misheard me" story.
- 10:48 AM ET: Waxman yields his 15 minutes to Elijah Cummings (D-MD). Clemens lawyer about Pettitte, "...we have no reason to believe he would lie." Clemens agrees. Cummings inquires about Pettitte's statement ot the committee. Cummings states that Pettitte stated he, "...volunteered information about the 2004 HGH injections that weren't in the Mitchell Report...", Cummings asks Clemens, "...you are under oath, did Andy Pettitte lie about your using HGH?" Clemens response is that, "..he misheard me."
- 10:41 AM ET: McNamee delivers opening statement, in which he shows contrition about his role in injecting the players he has named with steroids and HGH over a period of several years. He apologized to the nation and to baseball fans for his role in the steroids scandal. He repeatedly states he told the truth to George Mitchell for the Mitchell Report. He talks about Clemens, "...attack on my character, but I have never lied to anyone about my testimony..." and confirmed that he, "...never injected Clemens with B-12 or Lidocaine." McNamee also indicates he recently turned over syringes that he used in Clemens and claims that the DNA evidence will prove that they were injected in Clemens..." He goes on to admit to lying to Florida police officers in order to protect Yankees players.
- 10:37 AM ET: Clemens delivers opening statement: "...shortcuts were NOT an option... I'm not just a ballplayer, I'm a human being...when I spoke out, I'm assumed to be guilty, when I keep quiet I'm assumed guilty...do I think steroids are good, no, and I think they may be detrimental...I've got to try to set the record straight...I'm not saying the entire Mitchell Report is wrong, but that Mr. McNamee's testimony about me is wrong...let me be clear, I have never taken steroids or HGH..."
- 10:36 AM ET: All three witnesses swear to tell the truth under oath
- 10:34 AM ET: Davis hopes that Clemens, "...can freely and openly testify without any shackles..."
- 10:33 AM ET: Davis offers kudos to George Mitchell for preparing the Mitchell Report despite, "...no power to subpoena any players or other club members and/or to compel their testimony..."
- 10:30 AM ET: After Waxman finishes his opening statement, Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA) begins statement, indicating there are other votes in the House that may come up, but that they will not adjourn the hearing to take part in those votes.
- 10:27 AM ET: Waxman also indicates that, "Pettitte spoke with Clemens about HGH use as early as 1999..."
- 10:24 AM ET: Waxman indicating more about the Pettitte testimony and the discrepancies with Clemens statements in the Mitchell Report, and the name of Debbie Clemens, wife of Roger Clemens, has also come up regarding her being injected with HGH as well.
- 10:21 AM ET: Waxman then sets up the premise for today's hearing by indicating potential misstatements by both McNamee and Clemens.
- 10:18 AM ET: Waxman indicates that, "McNamee originally named 3 players in the Mitchell Report, and 2 of those have testified to the committee that he was telling the truth..."
- 10:16 AM ET: Waxman still reading opening statement, indicating the "opposite testimonies offered by McNamee and Clemens"
- 10:12 AM ET: Waxman reveals in his statement that both Pettitte and Chuck Knoblauch have admitted to further instances of HGH usage through McNamee.
- 10:09 AM ET: Waxman reviewing reason for today's hearing, specifically the Mitchell Report and the section that Clemens has challenged through his attorney as "inaccurate".
