Christopher Scott Emmett was executed on July 25, 2008, for the murder of a co-worker in 2001. After years of appeals pleading that the practice amounted to cruel and unusual punishment, Emmett was executed via lethal injection in the state of Virginia. He was 36 years old. ¹
