The Long Tail and Free
Chris Anderson's bestselling book The Long Tail explains the concept that the blockbuster hit model that dominated the economics of the 20th century is giving way to a marketplace where what the consumer wants, an almost infinite variety of goods and services, will become available due to the Internet, where the restriction of renting shelf space does not exist. His newest concept is the idea of Free, or "freeconomics," which posits that since the costs of bandwidth, storage and processing power will continue to drop close to zero and the barrier of entry to the marketplace is so low, free will become a dominant market force.
