Chocolate is a fabled and much loved food. It causes extreme reactions in people; some people even label themselves chocoholics! Originating in South and Central America, chocolate has been eaten for over 3000 years.

The chocolate we are most familiar with today is eating chocolate that comes in milk, dark, and white varieties. The amount of cocoa butter in relationship to sugar and dairy is what affects the color and sweetness of chocolate.

Chocolate is often eaten plain, but it is also an ingredient is many different types of food, from savory sauces, to rich desserts.

The health benefits of chocolate have been examined closely, and it seems to be the consensus that chocolate, especially dark chocolate, can possibly lower blood pressure, reduce free radicals, and increase serotonin levels, which makes you feel good.

Chocolate consumption in the U.S. peaks around holidays, especially Christmas and Valentine's Day.
