Channel Tunnel
The Channel Tunnel or "Chunnel," is a 31-mile long tunnel running beneath the English Channel and connecting Great Britain and France. On September 11, 2008, a fire broke out on a truck transport train seven miles from the French exit, forcing 32 passengers to take refuge in the service tunnel.1

Design
The Channel Tunnel is actually composed of three different tunnels: one tunnel running toward France, another running toward England and a third service tunnel in between the two.1
