Chandrayaan Launch

The Indian Space Research Organization's Chandrayaan-1 Lunar Orbiter was launched from southern India on October 22, 2008. One of the mission's goals is to map out not only the moon's surface but also what lies beneath. India plans to establish a manned space program and wants to land a rover on the moon by 2011.¹
