Football Career
Pennington began his career playing college football with the Marshall Thundering Herd. He helped the team win the Motor City Bowl in 1999, in which he was selected as the game MVP. He also earned the Draddy Trophy in 1999 for commitment and excellence both on and off the field.
Pennington was drafted in the first round of the 2000 NFL draft by the New York Jets. He played eight seasons with the team, until August 7, 2008, when the Jets signed veteran quarterback Brett Favre. Pennington was released the same day and signed with the Dolphins one day later.
