On August 12, 2008, ProFootballTalk.com reported that Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson has decided to legally change his name to "Ocho Cinco." Johnson adopted the nickname "Ocho Cinco" in 2006, as it is the Spanish translation of his jersey number 85.1
On August 28, 2008, Miami radio station 790 The Ticket announced that Johnson legally changed his last name to "Ocho Cinco."2

One Way to Avoid a Fine
Before a 2006 NFL game, Johnson wore a customized jersey on the field with the last name of "Ocho Cinco." Although he did not wear the "Ocho Cinco" jersey during play, the NFL fined Johnson $5,000 for the incident. According to reports, if Johnson's legal name was "Ocho Cinco," the NFL would be forced to allow that name on his jersey.4
