The E3 video games media event in 2008 was held from July 14-July 17 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The event was a smaller, more parred-down version of the massively attended event in some of its prior incarnations. Only 4,000 attended the 2008 expo, as opposed to past events when upwards of 60,000 attended.

Perhaps the most jarring news to come out of E3 2008 was the announcement that Final Fantasy XIII—always thought to be a PS3 exclusive—would in fact be going cross-platform and arriving on the Xbox 360. This revelation surprised those watching the Microsoft Keynote, and was thought to significantly increase Microsoft's hand in the console war.
