Introduction

  1. This walkthrough is aimed to help the solo player make it through the main story mode for Castle Crashers.
  2. Since Castle Crashers is a game where the type of character you choose to create has a huge influence in what kind of strategy to employ throughout the game, this guide will attempt to provide tips for all types of characters.
  3. This guide will also provide the locations for all 26 hidden Animal Orbs and the 12 achievements that the game offers.

General Tips

Controls

  1. Castle Crashers uses a two button melee combat system with the X button being used for weak attacks and the Y button being used for strong attacks.
  2. Press the A button to jump.
  3. TIP: Press the A Button right as you land if you get knocked down to spring back up.
  4. By holding RT and pressing one of the face buttons, you can perform magic attacks. The magic attacks vary with each character and you will only unlock more abilities by putting more points into magic.
  5. Hold down the LT to bring up your shield. Holding up your shield will drastically slow down your movement, but it will protect you from incoming projectiles and most melee attacks that hit you from the front.
  6. Press the B button to use whatever item you currently have equipped. You can press RB to switch between items in your inventory on the fly.

Creating Your Character

  1. To dismiss Castle Crashers off as just another 2D sidescrolling beat-em-up would be a huge mistake. There is a heavy RPG aspect to the game and as such you should plan out what you want your character to focus on.
  2. Whenever you level up, you are given points to add to specific traits of your character.
  3. Increasing strength will cause your character to do more damage with his melee attacks.
  4. Increasing magic will increase the range and damage of your magic spells, as well as grant you more magic abilities.
  5. Increasing defense will increase your characters health and defense against attacks.
  6. And finally increasing agility will make your character faster and cause your arrows to be shot faster and farther.
  7. If you want to be a melee powerhouse, focus on strength/defense and ignore magic and agility.
  8. If you want to be a ranged fighter, decide whether you want to be an archer or a straight up mage. There really isn't any point to focus on both. Whatever you decide to be, make sure to dump plenty of points into defense as well so you can take a few hits.
  9. Of course, you could also become a jack of all trades and spread your points out across all four stats, but from my experience it makes the game much harder than it needs to be.
  10. NOTE: If you decide to be an Orange Knight, I highly advise that you do not pool your points into magic. The Lava World level is full of enemies that are highly resistant to fire magic, which will make the level extremely difficult.

Juggling

  1. To juggle enemies, simply continuously connect with an aerial attack while holding the direction that the enemy is going.
  2. With proper timing, you can keep an aerial combo going infinitely by pressing X X X X Y repeatedly. Doing so will cause your character to perform four weak hits, bounce the enemy off the ground and back up into the air, and give your character a height boost as well.
  3. Use juggling to deal massive amounts of damage to smaller enemies by juggling them into a corner and then keeping the combo going for as long as you can.
  4. In addition to dealing lots of damage, juggling is also useful for gaining lots of EXP. The more you hit an enemy, the more EXP you gain. Since you can keep on hitting an enemy after their hp has been drained if you are juggling them, you can gain much more exp than usual.
  5. Juggling also keeps you out of the reach of enemy projectiles, such as arrows or magic.

Animal Orbs

  1. Animal Orbs can be found and bought throughout the game and will provide your character with different kinds of bonuses.
  2. Once you find an Animal Orb in a level, go back to the blacksmith and enter the ark on the left side to find out what it does.
  3. There are a total of 26 Animal Orbs to find throughout the game. To view their locations, check the Animal Orb Locations section of this guide.

The Weapons Frog

  1. As you play through Castle Crashers, you'll find many new weapons.
  2. You can only carry one weapon at a time, so any weapon that you throw away will be stored in the Weapons Frog at the Blacksmith.
  3. Inside the Weapons Frog, you can check the stats of each weapon that you've found and select the one that suits your playstyle best.

Shops

  1. There are a total of six general stores throughout the map of castle crashers.
  2. Use these shops to stock up on potions, bombs and sandwiches as well as buying new weapons and Animal Orbs.

Arenas

  1. Arena battles are extremely tough challenges that pit you against wave after wave of a specific enemy type.
  2. The enemies here are extremely aggressive and will usually spam ranged attacks like there is no tomorrow.
  3. The reward for beating these are secret characters. For more information about how to unlock characters, check the Secret Characters section of this walkthrough.
  4. My best advice for going into these is to make sure you're stocked up on potions and to stay off the ground as much as you can so you don't get bombarded by ranged attacks.

Walkthrough

Home Castle

  1. Once your castle is crashed and you gain control, head up the stairs to the right to begin the level.
  2. Since you're at too low of a level where your magic will make much of a difference, just dispatch your enemies using juggles and combos.
  3. TIP: Remember that the more you hit an enemy, the more exp you gain. Try to defeat all of your enemies by juggling them to the sides of the stage and then continue hitting them long after they've died.
  4. Hidden Animal Orb: After you get the shovel, come back to this level and go back to the very first section of the game. In the upper right hand corner there should be a hay stack where you'll see an X. Dig there to uncover the Animal Orb, Mr. Buddy.

Castle Keep

  1. Clear out all of the enemies so that the shop keeper can come out of hiding. You probably don't have enough gold to purchase a sword, and it likely isn't worth it anyway. If you have the money though, pick up a potion.
  2. Proceed to the right to advance to the next area.

Barbarian War

  1. You'll find that the enemies here like to use arrows a lot more than in the previous stages. Be ready to either pull out your shield with the LT button to block them, or simply dodge them by moving up or down.
  2. TIP: Cut the tall grass to find food if you're low on health.
  3. After cutting your way through several waves of barbarians and thieves, you'll be met by the Trojan Ram.

BOSS: Trojan Ram

  1. This wooden ram has two main ways of damaging you: charging into you or hitting you with cannonballs fired via the cannons on its back.
  2. To avoid the cannonballs, just don't stay within the red circles that appear on the ground for too long. You have about four seconds from the time when the circles appear to the time when the cannonball touches ground.
  3. While the Ram is charging from side to side, just run up and down to avoid it.
  4. Once the Ram stops or slows down it will open up to reveal the barbarians inside. Ignore the barbarians and concentrate on dealing damage to the Ram at this time.
  5. The best way to deal damage is to simply jump and utilize the X X X X Y combo repeatedly. Be wary of the cannonballs and don't stay in the same place for too long to avoid getting hit.
  6. Eventually the Ram will fall and you'll be able to proceed to the right.
  7. TIP: Slash at the trees to get some food.
  8. When you reach the wooden door, bust it down by hacking away at it.
  9. Defeat this last wave of enemies to advance to the next area.

Barbarian Boss

BOSS: Barbarian Boss

  1. As fierce as he looks, the Barbarian Boss is actually pretty easy. He has four main attacks.
  2. His first and most commonly used attacks is a simple punch. When he reaches back and his eyes open wide, move up or down to avoid it.
  3. His second attack is probably his most dangerous, but it’s still easy to avoid. He will jump up, reach for his spiked board on his back, and slam it down. He will then roll over it and wind up on the other side. If it hits, move the right stick back and forth to pull yourself out from the ground.
  4. His third attack involves him bring his board to his front and extending the spikes. Again, just move up or down once you see him pull out his board.
  5. His final attack has him drinking a swag from a bottle and then spewing fire as he rockets backwards. I hate to sound repetitive, but since this only hits a linear path, just move up or down to avoid it. Note that he is invulnerable while he's drinking, so just leave him alone and play with some of the small barbarians that are running around.
  6. Just like the Ram, you should focus on using your aerial combos to deal damage to him while making note of when you need to avoid his attacks.
  7. Once you take him down, open the treasure chest, collect your loot, and steal a kiss from the first princess to end the level.

Forest Entrance

  1. Knock the thief off of the dino so that you can jump on it and ride it yourself. Press X while on the dino to swing your weapon and press Y to cause the dino to chomp down on whatever is in front of you.
  2. This will be your first encounter with "beefy" enemies. This guys are tough for melee oriented characters to deal with since they tend to throw you whenever you get close. Use the dino's bite to deal damage without having to get in the range of their throw.
  3. TIP: Once again, cut down the tall grass and hack away at the trees to uncover some hidden food.
  4. Hidden Animal Orb: Look behind the bushes before going into the cave to find the Animal Orb, Owlett.

Thieves' Forest

  1. Attack the moving bush near the entrance to reveal a thief.
  2. Enjoy or detest the toilet humor of the woodland creatures as you continue paving your way through the hordes of arrow happy thieves.
  3. Hidden Item: Come back to this level when you have the Animal Orb Cardinal to find the Boomerang.
  4. Open the treasure chest along the way to find a Hammer. If you're a melee oriented character, the hammer is a good choice since it gives a bonus to strength at the price of one point of agility.
  5. When you reach the stream, you'll find the Animal Orb, Seahorse.
  6. Hidden Animal Orb: When you reach the area where you are ambushed by trolls (those creepy hairy black things), look for a cracked wall that seems to hold another troll behind it. Bomb this wall to obtain the Animal Orb aptly titled, Troll.
  7. The second treasure chest you find will contain a twig. It gives a bonus to agility, but I still wouldn't recommend using it as your agility stat is still too low right now to make arrows useful.
  8. Continue down the path and you'll find four bags of gold. Collect them fast before a little thieving monster comes and nabs them.
  9. Once you reach the mill you'll have to fight a miniboss.

BOSS: Large Troll

  1. There really isn't much to say about this guy. He can't actually damage you. All he does is run around and spawn a bunch of small trolls
  2. Ignore the small trolls and focus solely on the boss. He'll keep spawning more trolls until you kill him.
  3. Once he's finished, follow all of the animals into the mill.

Abandoned Mill

  1. This little challenge will put your reflexes to the test. You have to run away from the hulking monster on the left while avoiding obstacles that appear on your right.
  2. Position yourself in the middle of the level and keep your finger over the A button. Jump when you see a log; don't try to maneuver around it even if it’s a small log.
  3. If you see a beam of light along the floor, head towards it to make it through the doorway.
  4. After you go through a doorway, make sure that you go back to the middle.
  5. If you manage to make it all the way through without getting hit by an obstacle, you will earn the Deer Trainer Achievement - 20g.

Rapids Ride

  1. The first thing you want to do is get a hold of something to stand on. A small fish, a shark (the face, not the fin), a wheel, etc.
  2. You'll be faced with lots of small bats that will be a huge annoyance if you don't take care of them. Since they only have 1 HP, use your A A combo to take a group of them out in one go.
  3. To take care of the big green fishes, just ride up to them and hit them with a melee combo if you're a melee oriented character. Otherwise just keep your distance and pelt them with arrows or magic. Watch out for their charge and jump attacks.
  4. You'll reach the end when you see a fish get pelted with a cannonball.

Catfish

BOSS: Catfish

  1. TIP: If you're into using exploits and glitches to level up your character, there's a pretty big one involving this boss. Equip your boomerang and fully charge it. Throw the boomerang past the catfish and then move in front of it so that it hits the boss on the way back. The boomerang will get stuck and will continuously deal 1 damage, allowing you to rack up the experience. All you have to do now is hold up your shield and block the punches.
  2. Just hitting the Catfish normally will deal very little damage. For this reason, we need to open up its defenses a little bit.
  3. When the Catfish spits out a hairball, destroy it and then stand in front of the boat with your shield raised.
  4. The Catfish will come forward to try and punch you out. Fortunately, this gives the boat enough time to ready a cannonball and shoot the Catfish in the face.
  5. While the Catfish is stunned, use your aerial attacks to deal damage.
  6. When he goes underwater and exposes his hand, just keep moving to avoid getting whacked.
  7. Eventually the Catfish will switch up its tactics and will halfway submerge itself underwater. When it does this, it will swim from side to side in an attempt to ram you.
  8. When it swims to the right side, position yourself in front of the boat and move out of the way as it swims towards you. It will crash its head into the boat and deal damage to itself.
  9. Continue this process of avoid its attacks, breaking the hairball, letting the cannon shoot it and then attacking it while it’s stunned to take the Catfish down.

Tall Grass Field

  1. TIP: If you're a magic oriented character and have been pooling your level up points into magic, you should have some fairly powerful magic by now. It should be about time to make magic your primary method of dispatching your enemies.
  2. Hidden Animal Orb: Come back to this level once you have the horn and blow it in front of the second hut you see. You'll receive the Animal Orb, Hawkster.
  3. After you get past the second wave of enemies, you'll fight against a shaman. The Shaman is basically a tougher version of the regular white bears that you've been fighting, only he will frequently utilize his tornado magic to run you down.
  4. He can be hit out of his tornado, so don't be afraid to take it head on.
  5. Once you finish him off, don't forget to grab his Animal Orb, Rammy. Rammy is a very useful Animal Orb at this point in the game as he will knock enemies down and give you some breathing room if you get surrounded.
  6. Two beefy bears will be your next obstacle. Again, ranged characters should deal with them from a distance. If you're a melee oriented fighter, use aerial attacks but make sure that you actually hit them before you get close enough for them to grab you.
  7. After you defeat all of the enemies, you'll be met by a rapid fire arrow launcher manned by two enemies. Just bring up your shield and march through the arrows until you get close enough to break the machines.
  8. Hidden Animal Orb: Come back to this level once you have bombs and a sandwich. After you destroy the arrow launchers you'll see a large rock protruding from the hill. Use the sandwich to remove the rock and then use the bombs to break the crack in the wall and find the Animal Orb, Burly Bear. Don't forget to grab the two treasure chests as well.
  9. Climb up the grassy part of the hill, defeat the last two enemies and enter the cave.

Pipistrello's Cave

  1. Kill the two waves of blobs to come face to face with the next boss.

BOSS: Pipistrello

  1. Pipistrello has two ways of attacking. When he flies he will try to drop turds on you which will not only deal a good amount of initial damage, but will also poison you.
  2. Once he lands, he will attempt to lick you, another attack that can do a large amount of damage to someone who doesn't have many points invested in defense.
  3. To defeat him, wait until he lands and use hit and run tactics to damage him while staying clear of getting hit by his tongue.
  4. You will also have to deal with the many bats that come out of the cave to your right. Since these guys only have 1 HP, use your A A combo to take them out.
  5. If the bats manage to grab hold of you, mash the X button to break free.
  6. Once Pipistrello is downed for good, pick up Bitey Bat, head right and collect all of the loot to end the level.

Flowery Field

  1. Use your A A combo to knock the bees down to the floor so you can take them out on solid ground.
  2. Once you get to the end, jump in a catapult and press X when the meter is full to unlock the achievement: Maximum Firepower - 10 g.
  3. Continue heading right until you reach a window that you can bust through to reach the next area.

Wedding Crash

  1. TIP: Before heading into this level, I recommend stocking up on some potions if you haven't already. The boss here is tough with attacks that are very hard to avoid.
  2. Many of the tables here hold food and gold. Break them down in order to get whatever is on top of them.
  3. Fight your way through the waves of lightsaber wielding baddies to reach the boss of the level.

BOSS: Periwinkle Knight

  1. This guy may look like just another enemy, but looks can be deceiving. He is incredibly fast, very damaging, and is resistant to being juggled.
  2. If you're a melee oriented fighter, your best bet is to go toe to toe and hope that your stats are high enough to take him.
  3. The main technique you need to watch out for is his spin attack. As soon as you see him start spinning, immediately pull up your shield.
  4. If you're a ranged specialist, it’s not going to be much easier for you. His speed and unpredictability make it easy for him to close the distance between you and make it hard to hit him with your magic.
  5. When he goes to play the organ, simply avoid standing on the red circles to avoid the cannonballs.

Parade

  1. Pretty simple here. Just knock the enemies off the carriage as they jump on with simple combos and/or magic.
  2. Things get a little more tricky once that hairy black monster from the abandoned mill starts chasing you again.

BOSS: Forest Monster

  1. Melee oriented characters should jump out and start using their aerial X X X X Y combo on the eye of the beast. If you can keep the attack going, you'll take the monster down in no time.
  2. Magic and ranged oriented characters need to just remain on the carriage and fire projectiles at the monster.
  3. The only thing to watch out for is when the beast's eyes start to glow. If you don't deal damage to it quickly, it will unleash an unavoidable blast that will knock you off the carriage and deal some big damage.
  4. Once you reach the end of the line, enter the cave to move on to the next area.

Cyclops' Cave

  1. Hidden Animal Orb: After you enter the level, immediately exit the same way you came in. The Animal Orb Meowburt will be waiting for you.
  2. Collect the fruit to heal up and then proceed forward.
  3. Note that the armored foes in here are too heavy to juggle. Take them out with grounded melee combos instead if magic or arrows are not an option.
  4. The little imps here will try to take the gold that the enemies drop so pick it up fast.
  5. TIP: Cut the mushrooms to find some hidden food.

Cyclops' Gate

  1. Lava will spew out of the cracks in the floor, so take your time as you make your way up the slope.
  2. Break the wall to enter the fortress.

Cyclops' Fortress

  1. Again, the enemies here are too heavy to juggle, so focus on finishing them off with normal grounded combos, magic, or arrows.
  2. Hidden Animal Orb: Once you reach the second wave of enemies, bomb the cracked wall to uncover the Animal Orb, Snoot.
  3. Once you reach the end, you'll have to fight the Cyclops.

BOSS: Cyclops

  1. The first thing you want to do is move to a spot that allows for vertical movement. The Cyclops' main attack cannot be avoided by running to the left or right due to its long reach. The area to the right of the casket will do nicely.
  2. Whenever the Cyclops reaches up to jam his two knives into the ground, side-step them and then use whatever you've got to deal some damage before getting ready to side-step again.
  3. Soon he will start jumping around and then throw daggers at you. Just pull up your shield and block them.
  4. Once he stops, get back into the pattern of side-stepping his main attack and then punishing him.
  5. After delivering the finishing blow, the Cyclops will fall into the lava, treasure will rain down from the sky and you will be able to steal another kiss from a fair maiden.

Lava World

  1. Just like in the Cyclops' gate, be wary of the cracks in the ground as lava will spew out of them in regular intervals.
  2. The enemies in this level are very fond of using magic attacks, so whenever they start glowing with flames, be ready to either block or avoid some magic.
  3. TIP: If you are the Orange Knight, don't bother using magic on these guys.
  4. When you reach a metal door, kill the enemies that spawn to pick up sandwiches. You might as well kill five of them to ensure that you have a healthy supply.
  5. Once you have all the sandwiches you want, use one by selecting it in the inventory menu and pressing B. This will cause you to become beefy, allowing you to rip away the metal door by running up to it and repeatedly pressing X.
  6. TIP: Break the rocks that look like people to find hidden food.
  7. Fight your way through the armies of fire demons and skeletons until you reach a mountain. Open the treasure chest to find a piece of chicken to heal yourself, then travel up the ramp to fight a couple of more fire demons, followed by a miniboss.

MINIBOSS: Mini-Volcano

  1. This mini-volcano can only be damaged by a beefy knight, so eat a sandwich and start wailing away.
  2. If you run low on sandwiches, kill some of the fire demons to pick them up.
  3. While the volcano is being hit, it won't be able to erupt so just keep the hurt coming constantly.
  4. Once it's dead, continue to the right and head down the ramp.
  5. there are two treasure chests here with food that will let you heal up for the next boss fight.

BOSS: Sock Puppet Dragon

  1. This boss looks intimidating, but it really only has two attacks. The dragon's head will blow fire about 1/4th of the way up the mountain, while the sock puppet drops rocks from the other side.
  2. Melee oriented characters should concentrate on using hit and run tactics with their aerial X X X X Y combo on the dragon's head. When the dragon tilts his head down, immediately run towards the right and make sure that you can run under the bouncing rock.
  3. Ranged characters should head up the ramp and find a spot where they can just unload on the dragons head with their projectiles. This way the only thing they have to worry about are the falling rocks on the right side.
  4. Once the dragon falls, enter the door that opens to claim the golden ship helm and end the level.
  5. Now that we have some sandwiches, its time to pay a visit to the Industrial Castle.

Industrial Castle

  1. Go to the metal door, eat a sandwich and rip the door away to gain access to the castle.
  2. Make your way through the waves of enemies to reach a wall of poison cannons. Bring out your shield and head up the ramp at the top.
  3. Take your time as you walk past the crushers and tesla coils up ahead. They can be pretty damaging if you don't get the timing down.
  4. Fight your way past the enemies on the elevator to reach the top. Finish off the remaining waves of bad guys as you make your way to the right to reach the boss.
  5. Don't forget to pick up the Animal Orb, Cardinal as you continue on.

BOSS: Mechanical Boss

  1. Sorry, I couldn't think of a better name for this boss.
  2. There are actually six areas that you can damage this boss: The five poles that pop up in the center, the gun on the right side and the hand on the left.
  3. Start off by attacking the five poles one by one, while being sure to avoid the elemental attacks coming from the right and the hand from the left.
  4. Next, focus on the hand. The hand will back off if you damage it significantly enough, so keep on the offensive.
  5. Finally, finish it off by targeting the gun. The heated floor beneath the gun will damage if you step on it, but you can still get close enough to deal melee damage without getting burned by the floor. You just have to find your range.
  6. After the battle is over, grab the telescope and it’s off to the docks!

Dock

  1. This really isn't a level at all. Just walk to the right to give the captain his relics so you can get on the ship.

Pirate Ship

  1. What starts out as a peaceful boat ride to the next continent is quickly interrupted by an enemy boat bombarding you with cannonballs. As always, avoid the red circles to avoid getting hit.
  2. The ninjas that board your ship are a fairly unique enemy type. If you see them turn into a log after you hit them, immediately block or move out of the way since they will teleport from the opposite side and try to hit you with a flying kick.

Desert

  1. Hidden Item: Break the sandcastle to find the Shovel. Use the shovel whenever you see an X on the ground to dig up secret items, food and Animal Orbs.
  2. TIP: There is a lot of buried treasure here, which makes this a good place to work on getting your Treasure Hunter - 20g achievement for digging up 10 buried items.
  3. The worms that crawl out of the quicksand in the desert will shoot balls of poison at you and will grab hold of you if you get too close. If you get grabbed, move the control stick back and forth to break free.
  4. The scorpions here are not actual enemies. They don't actively seek you out and they die in one hit. Deal with them if they get in your way, but don't actively seek them out.
  5. About halfway through the level you'll run into a Dune Bug. These guys dive into the sand and swim around in an attempt to ram into you. Wait for them to emerge and then unleash whatever you have at them before they dive back into the sand.
  6. Hidden Animal Orb: Just before you fight the spaceships there is an X on the floor that marks the spot where the Animal Orb Giraffey is buried.
  7. Fight your way through several waves of Dune Bugs, Sandworms and Desert Guards and you'll eventually make your way to the boss of the level. A Spaceship that drops Alien Hominids.

BOSS: Spaceship x2

  1. Ignore the aliens and just concentrate on using air combos on the spaceship. It's actually fairly weak so it shouldn't take too long to bring it down.
  2. Aside from throwing alien hominids at you, the only attack that the spaceship has is dropping a large block on you.
  3. After bringing down the first spaceship, take a couple of steps further to find that you'll have to fight another one.

Alien Ship

  1. Use your bow or your magic to break the control panel at the bottom right.
  2. Proceed to the right to trigger a fight with a whole lot of aliens. Thankfully, like in the game Alien Hominid, these enemies die in one hit.
  3. A good method of killing a lot of aliens very quickly is by just using your aerial X attack and just mashing it repeatedly while you go across the stage.
  4. Once all of the aliens are dead, proceed to the right and break the panel to trigger a cutscene and an explosion countdown.
  5. Quickly run to the right and break the panel on the other side of the laser fence.
  6. Hidden Animal Orb: Right after you break the panel, hug the top wall to discover an opening where you'll find the Animal Orb, Install Ball.
  7. Kill the three aliens to reach the next section where you'll have to try your best to walk along the gaps between the black smoke blowing air ducts.
  8. TIP: If you're having trouble with this section, use a sandwich to become beefy. The smoke will hurt you, but it wont knock you over.
  9. Once you clear that section, just kill the last group of aliens and run to the escape pod before time is up.

Desert Chase

  1. Melee warriors may want to hitch a ride on the camel, but ranged fighters would be better off at this point just sticking to their pedestrian ways since they can't use their bow or magic while on a mount.
  2. Hidden Animal Orb Defeat the enemy that is on the camel to steal his Animal Orb, Zebra.
  3. Whatever method of transportation you choose, fight your way rightwards until you reach the castle. All of the enemies you face here should be familiar so it’s just a matter of making the best use of your own skills.

Sand Castle Interior

  1. Hidden Animal Orb: Use two bombs to blow up the cracked wall and pick up the Animal Orb, Scratchpaw.
  2. The big green guards here are extremely tough if you're melee oriented. Bring a couple of potions along for the ride.
  3. Once you defeat all the enemies, go through the doorway on the right to move on to the next area.

Sand Castle Roof

  1. Again, no surprises here. There will be about 3 waves of standard palace guards for you to fight through before you reach the "boss" of the level.

BOSS: Volleyball Match

  1. Once you reach the end, you'll be thrown into a volleyball match against four guards. The object of the game is to hit the ball on to their side and hope that it touches the ground. First to 10 points wins.
  2. Of course, no one ever said that this had to be a fair game. When the ball is on their side, don't be afraid to hit any opponent that happens to be close enough to the line.
  3. When the ball flies over to your side, look at the shadows to lineup where you need to be in order to hit the ball back.
  4. When you win, you'll earn the oppositions respect and their treasure map.

Flooded Temple

  1. Enter, walk up to the door, and then walk out. You can't do anything here until you get the horn.

Marsh

  1. Breaking the tombstones here gives you a chance to net some extra loot, but it will also cause more skeletons to rise out of the ground.
  2. Hidden Animal Orb: Right in front of the crypt after the four tombstones on the top row, you'll find an X on the ground. Dig on the X to find the Animal Orb, Frogglet.
  3. When the Bat Knight comes along and super charges the skeletons, you're in for one tough fight. Focus on eliminating the smaller skeletons first since they are faster and fire projectiles.
  4. Many more waves of green enemy knights await you as you continue on. Be sure to break any barrels along the way for health boosts.
  5. Eventually you'll come across another large troll. Kill it off before it gets the chance to spawn too many small trolls, then clean up the trolls that it did manage to create.
  6. Towards the end you'll find the Animal Orb Snailburt floating right out in the open.

Corn Boss

BOSS: Corn Boss

  1. The Corn Boss isn't particularly dangerous, but it can take a while to bring down.
  2. It has three ways of attacking you. The first and most frequent method involves it diving underground and then emerging from under you. To avoid it, just run around when you see it go underground.
  3. Its second attack has it spinning its stalks around like a tornado as it moves across the stage. This attack isn't particularly damaging, so don't sweat it if it hits you.
  4. Its third attack, and the one that will be most annoying if you're a melee character, is its cornstalk poke. It will poke its stalk out either at ground level or in the air to try and punch you away.
  5. Ranged attackers should just hang back out of the range of its pokes and rain down whatever projectiles they have upon the corn beast.
  6. Melee users should use the tried and true method of using the X X X X Y aerial combo for as long as they can.
  7. Once the boss goes down, you'll receive the horn and can now travel back to the flooded temple.

Flooded Temple Revisited

  1. Walk up to the door and use your newly acquired horn to open the door.
  2. Since you move so slow in the water, it is highly recommended that melee characters make constant use of their air combos, not only to deal damage, but to get around the stage without moving like a snail.

Medusa's Lair

  1. TIP: As always, break the statues for loot and food.
  2. Hidden Animal Orb: Search the ground for an X near the start of the level. Dig it up to find the Animal Orb, Chicken.
  3. Trudge your way through the legions of mutant fish and guards to face off against Medusa herself.

BOSS: Medusa

  1. Medusa will slither around the stage throwing snakes at you and trying to turn you to stone with her gaze. If you get turned to stone, quickly move the left stick back and forth to break free.
  2. Ranged characters don't have much to worry about here as long as they keep clear of the poisonous projectiles fired by Medusa's hair and the snakes that she throws at you. She does have a lot of health though so be ready for a long fight.
  3. Melee characters will have a tougher time, but should still find things pretty easy.
  4. If you're a melee oriented character, get in as close as you can and block the initial strike. From there, just keep executing quick ground combos and blocking when she readies to punch you again.
  5. At close range, you can't get hit by her snakes, poison projectile, or her gaze so the only thing you have to worry about is that punch.
  6. If she backs off to the point where she's off screen, head to the opposite side and let her come back.
  7. TIP: Hitting her snakes back at her also deals some fairly decent damage.

Full Moon

  1. The armor clad enemies here can't be juggled, so stick with ground combos to deal with the small enemies.
  2. TIP: Cut up the mushrooms for health.
  3. Hidden Item and Animal Orb: If you have the Cardinal equipped as your Animal Orb coming into this level, you'll find a Keyblade sword. Take this sword to the Animal Ark and use it to unlock the door at the very end. You'll find the Animal Orb, Beholder inside the locked room.
  4. Once you reach the top of the mountain, you'll start running into ice enemies. Unlike the other enemies in this level, these guys can be juggled, so make full use of that fact.

Snow World

  1. Attack the outposts and barriers to break them and cause the enemies to become vulnerable.
  2. Keep up this process of breaking down the ice structures and defeating the enemies and you'll eventually reach a cave that serves as the entrance to the next area.
  3. Hidden Animal Orb: At the bottom of the ramp behind the first house lies the Animal Orb, Yeti.
  4. Hidden Animal Orb: At the top of the ramp that leads to the cave entrance, blow your horn to call out the Animal Orb, BiPolar Bear.

Ice Castle

  1. As soon as you enter, keep on running to the left without stopping to avoid getting hit by the falling stalactites
  2. After you break down the door to enter the next room, make sure that you can hear the volume for this next section.
  3. As you cross the bridge, you'll hear audible clues on what type of attack to expect. Use your shield to block the arrows and jump over the Ice Waves.
  4. Once you reach the end, kill the remaining enemies and proceed to the next room to fight the Ice Wizard.

BOSS: Ice Wizard

  1. The beginning of this fight is very easy. Whenever the Ice Wizard appears, run to him and use some kind of attack that keeps you in the air. If you're a mage, use your aerial RT + Y attack. If you're a melee warrior, use the X X X X Y aerial combo that you're no doubt used to by now. As long as you're in the air, his only attack that can hurt is when he causes the stalactites to fall.
  2. Once he's low on health, things will start to speed up. Keep up the same strategy, but make sure to attack through him so you don't stay in one place for too long.
  3. Keep it up and he'll eventually fall, allowing you to claim a huge treasure chest full of loot and another kiss from a princess.

Wizard Castle Take Off

  1. Not much to do here. Just head to the right, blast off and move left and right to avoid the falling rocks.

Wizard Castle Interior

  1. Magic users, the following is not going to be fun for you. The enemies here are nearly immune to magic so you're going to have to defeat three waves of tough enemies using only your melee skills.
  2. Once you reach the next section, you'll have to fight a gauntlet of three boss battles. Head through the first door for boss #1.

BOSS - The Painter

  1. This is a simple, but drawn out boss fight. The painter will go to his easel and paint some kind of Newgrounds inspired monstrosity. That monster will then come to life and chase after you.
  2. If you let the painting run into you, it will explode and deal some heavy damage. For this reason, juggling is a no-no. Stick with quick ground combos or ranged attack to take the art down.
  3. Your window of opportunity to deal some damage to the boss is when he goes back to paint another creature.
  4. Once his health is low enough, the painter will stop painting and will just wander aimlessly around creating his art out of thin air. Avoid the creatures and focus only on dealing damage to the painter to finish him off.
  5. Once he's dead, collect the food and the treasure and exit through the staircase on the right.
  6. Break the crystal to move on to the next boss.

BOSS - Cyborg Cyclops

  1. This battle with the Cyclops is largely the same as the previous one, just replace his two knives for a giant coffin and his daggers with fireballs.
  2. The one entirely new tactic for the Cyclops is that he will unleash his zombie buddy on you while he hops around. When this happens, just run around and avoid everything. Neither the zombie nor the Cyclops is vulnerable at this time.
  3. Aside from that, your tactics remain the same as the previous fight. When the Cyclops swings his coffin, move up or down to avoid it, hit him with whatever you have for a second or two and then move out of the way again. Unlike the other bosses, his attacks don't change as he takes more damage.
  4. Once again, collect the gold, break the crystal and move on to boss #3.

BOSS - Bat Knight

  1. I hope you have potions because regardless of what type of character you are, the Bat Knight is going to be the hardest boss in the game.
  2. The first phase of this fight involves the boss reviving nearly every enemy type in the game for you to fight at once.
  3. The first wave of enemies isn't too bad since they're all normal sized enemies. You can deal with them mostly by just spamming your aerial X attack through them all like a lawnmower.
  4. The second wave of enemies however comes complete with three extremely fast moving and extremely tough beefy monsters. For a melee oriented character, this is a nightmare.
  5. For ranged characters, this fight is all just a matter of being able to maneuver to a spot where you can safely fire off your attacks. Magic users have the advantage of being able to spam their aerial RT + Y attack to focus on individual enemies.
  6. Melee oriented characters... Good luck. The best advice that I can give is to stock up on potions and sandwiches to help you take care of the beefy enemies. They may be extra fast, but the same tactics that you've been using all along to take them down still apply.
  7. Once you've taken out both waves of enemies, the Bat Knight will come down to fight you himself. Thankfully, this is the easy part.
  8. The Bat Knight himself behaves like a powerful normal enemy so you should treat him as such. All of his attacks can be blocked so use that to your advantage by blocking his magic or combos and then responding with your own.
  9. Once he's dead, break the last crystal and its off to the final battle!

Final Battle

  1. TIP: This is the last level in the game, so be sure to stock up on health potions!.
  2. TIP: If you're a melee oriented fighter, I recommend using the Animal Orb Sherbert. You'll see why in phase 4.
  3. Hop on to the elevator and get ready for the final battle.

BOSS: Crystal Mage - Phase 1

  1. In the first phase of this fight, you actually don't get to fight the boss himself. Instead, you need to destroy four crystals that fly about over head and then crash down into the ground.
  2. Once they touch ground, wail away at them with whatever you've got. As long as the crystals aren't spinning, you can damage them.
  3. Once all four crystals are destroyed, the boss will come down himself to take care of you.

BOSS: Crystal Mage - Phase 2

  1. This next part will destroy you if you don't know the secret behind his barriers.
  2. When he has a blue barrier, he is vulnerable only to magic attacks. If you try a physical attack on him, you'll take the damage instead.
  3. Likewise, when he has a red barrier, only physical attacks work.
  4. Unless you've balanced your melee and magic skills, you might just want to wait until he turns the color that allows your specialty to deal damage and just defend in the mean time.

BOSS: Crystal Mage - Phase 3

  1. The boss will puff up like a balloon and float around in a circle while firing projectiles that burst when they hit the ground and go off in all directions.
  2. Don't worry about his projectiles and just focus on hitting the puffball. Melee characters need just mash the X button while in the air, magic characters should get a boost by using their magic jump (RT + A) and then spamming their RT + Y attack, and arrow users should just jump and spam their arrows.
  3. After knocking his life bar down to nothing, a treasure chest will fall on top of him. Break open the treasure chest to dive right into phase 4 of this battle.

BOSS: Crystal Mage - Phase 4

  1. Magic users have a fairly easy time here. Use the same strategy that you used in the last battle to whittle away his health. Magic jump to get high up, and then spam the RT + Y attack as you fall down.
  2. For melee players, things are little bit tougher. Whenever you get close enough to hit him, the boss will hit you away with his scorpion like tail.
  3. TIP: This is why I recommended that you use Sherbert as your Animal Orb. Sherbert lets you jump higher, which puts you at a height where his tail can't reach you. Once you're out of the reach of his tail, you're pretty much free to just hammer away at him with your X X X X Y aerial combo.

BOSS: Crystal Mage - Phase 5

  1. This phase is exactly like phase 3 so I’ll just repeat what I said there.
  2. The boss will puff up like a balloon and float around in a circle while firing projectiles that burst when they hit the ground and go off in all directions.
  3. Don't worry about his projectiles and just focus on hitting the puffball. Melee characters need just mash the X button while in the air, magic characters should get a boost by using their magic jump (RT + A) and then spamming their RT + Y attack, and arrow users should just jump and spam their arrows.
  4. After knocking his life bar down to nothing, a fiery sword will float into his hands to kick off the final phase of this battle.

BOSS: Crystal Mage - Phase 6

  1. The boss has three main attacks in this phase. His most frequently used attack, and the one that makes him most vulnerable, has him jumping in the air, raising his sword, and causing four meteors to rain down.
  2. While he is in the air, hit him with whatever you've got, but make sure that you go through him and don't just sit in one place as you attack, otherwise the meteors will hit you.
  3. His other main attack involves him spinning like a wheel as he moves from side to side. Magic users can use this as an opportunity to pelt him with their RT + B projectile attack while still having enough time to get out of the way. Melee characters should just avoid it all together.
  4. His final attack is one that he uses fairly rarely, but it is also the one that is least punishable. He will swing his sword and cause a wave of energy to shoot out in a straight line. There's not much you can do about this as it happens really fast and without much warning.
  5. After each attack, he'll run around for a bit before going into his next attack. This is your other big opportunity to score some easy hits. Since he's so fast, projectile users would be better off predicting where he is going to go rather than firing at where he currently is.
  6. Once he's down for the count and the platform is destroyed, land on the crystal to begin the ending.
  7. After you're back in your home castle, run up to the final princess for your last kiss. Surprise!
  8. Enjoy the dance and congratulate yourself on beating Castle Crashers!
