Casey Marie Anthony is the mother of Caylee Anthony, a three-year-old who has been missing since June 9, 2008.1 She has been charged with child neglect for failing to report the disappearance for more than one month.
Laboratory results made public on August 27, 2008, confirmed that a dead body had been in the trunk of Casey Anthony's car.2
According to court records, Anthony wanted to give Caylee up for adoption when she became pregnant, but her mother, Cindy Anthony, convinced her not to.3

Anthony's Story
July 16, 2008: Casey Marie Anthony reported last seeing her daughter on June 9, 2008, dropping her off with Zenaida Gonzalez, the toddler's babysitter. Anthony claims that she conducted her own investigation into her daughter's disappearance for more than a month before contacting police.5
Anthony was arrested after claims she made about where she last saw her daughter and her place of employment were found to be false.5
July 17, 2008: Investigators have reportedly seized a shovel Casey Marie Anthony borrowed from a neighbor around the time of her daughter's disappearance. The police investigated Anthony's backyard and found some "abnormalities" in the dirt but did not elaborate.7
July 22, 2008: Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, requested a bond hearing, which was granted. Baez stated that he knows why Anthony lied and said she would cooperate in exchange for immunity from future charges.8
