Alt hails from the Queens borough of New York and attended Hofstra University. In 1980, Alt began a modeling career, appearing on the cover of Harper's Bazaar, the first of more than 700 in her career. The apex of her modeling career may have come in 1983 when she landed on the cover of the coveted Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, breaking a three-year run by Christie Brinkley. By the late 1980s, she moved into acting. Though most of her appearances have been in international films, she was the conversation piece that Howard Stern talked about his life in his popular film Private Parts. More recently, Alt appeared in the NBC realty television series Celebrity Apprentice. As for her personal life, her taste in men seems to be hockey players. In 1983, she married New York Rangers defenseman Ron Greschner. They divorced in 1996, and she has been dating former New York Islanders forward Alexei Yashin since 2001. In 2008, it was announced that she pose nude for the first time for Playboy magazine. Alt is also a vociferous proponent of eating raw foods, having written a book in 2004 about how it changed her life called Eating in the Raw.
