• 1971: Defends title in rematch versus Benvenuti with 3rd round TKO
• 1971: Beats Emile Griffith in the 14th round by TKO
• 1972: Wins unanimous decision over Bennie Briscoe in 15 rounds
• 1973: Shot in the leg by his wife requiring 7 hours of surgery
• 1976: Wins a unanimous decision over Rodrigo Valdez
• 1976: Defends title once again versus Valdez and retires from boxing after 81 straight wins
