Early Life
Carl Pavano was born in New Britain, Connecticut, on January 8, 1976. He later attended Southington High School. In 1994, Pavano was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.2
Pro Career
Pavano made his MLB debut with the Montreal Expos on May 23, 1998. In his first season he appeared in 24 games and finished his rookie campaign with six wins and nine losses. In 2002, he was traded to the Florida Marlins. In 2004, he signed with the New York Yankees. 3
Injury Plagued Yankee
Since his signing at the start of the 2004 season, Pavano has been plagued by a rash of injuries. As of the start of the 2008 season, Pavano has appeared in only 19 games for the Yankees. His $40 million contract has been called one of the "biggest free agent busts in New York Yankees history."4
