Bromance

Guide Note: A Bromance is a non-romantic "man crush" shared between two guys. It is generally said to be a sharing of mutual love, admiration and respect between two straight men, though some would argue that a bromance can also exist between a straight man and a gay man.

The "man crush" has been discussed in pop culture, such as in the Seinfeld episode, "The Boyfriend." A prime example of bromance in particular is the on-screen relationship of the two lead characters in the 2007 comedy Superbad. Fast Facts:

  1. Term invented by Dave Carnie in describing relationships between skaters
  2. Often applies to deep, close male friendships
  3. Bromance may be due to decreasing numbers of friends for the modern working male
  4. Comedy group Negative Infinity created "Dude! A Bro-Mantic Comedy" sketch show
