Background
Blue Beetle chronicles the adventures of the Blue Beetle superhero. Originally published by Fox Comics, the first Blue Beetle was Dan Garrett, a policeman who had to take a vitamin to gain his powers.1
After an inconsistent publication run with the title, Fox sold the character rights to Charlton Comics in the 1950s.2 Their version of the Beetle depicted Garrett as an archaeologist who gained his powers by an ancient scarab.
Garrett's student Ted Kord became the second Blue Beetle in the 1960s after Garrett died. In the 1980s, the Beetle character was again sold to DC Comics, featured Kord in titles like Justice League of America and a Blue Beetle series of its own.3
In 2006, DC reimagined the Beetle character as a teenager, Jaime Reyes.4
