Blanca Ovelar

Guide Note: Blanca Ovelar is a politician and former school teacher in Paraguay. Currently, she is the presidential candidate for the ruling Colorado Party in the upcoming 2008 Election. She won the nomination, aided in large part by an endorsement from current president Nicanor Duarte, on January 11, 2007 with 45.04% of the primary vote. She is the first woman to be nominated as a presidential candidate in Paraguay and if elected she will be the first female president in the country's history. Recent polls have shown Ovelar in third place with 28.5% of the vote, behind Lino Oviedo's 28.9% and Fernando Lugo's 34.5%.
