Billy Collins Jr.
Billy Collins Jr. was a professional welterweight boxer. On June 16, 1983, Collins faced Puerto Rican boxer Luis Resto in a fight at Madison Square Garden. Collins was favored to win the fight, but instead received a severe beating, causing him to lose in a decision. It was later discovered that Resto's gloves had been tampered with before the fight. Resto eventually admitted that his gloves had a large amount of their padding removed, and that the hand wraps he wore had been soaked in Plaster of Paris, causing them to harden after being applied. Resto and his trainer, Panama Lewis, served two and a half years in prison on assault charges.
Collins suffered a torn iris as a result of being hit with the rock hard gloves, which permanently blurred his vision and ended his boxing career. Nine months after the fight, Collins was killed in a car accident.
