Bill Elliott


Guide Note: Bill Elliott is a NASCAR driver who competes in the Sprint Cup Series and the Nationwide Series for Wood Brothers/JTG Racing. He has announced that 2008 will be his final season racing on the NASCAR circuit.

Elliott’s first NASCAR race was in 1976 at the Rockingham Speedway, however it wouldn’t be until the final race of the 1983 season, at the Riverside International Raceway, that he would get his first NASCAR victory.

In 1985 he would become the first NASCAR driver to make the cover of Sports Illustrated, win NASCAR’s first million dollar prize and win 11 races on superspeedways.

With 44 career wins he has finished in the top ten in the point standings 14 times. Popular with fans he won NASCAR's Most Popular Driver Award a record 16 times before removing his name from the ballot.
