Guide Note: Bernard Kerik is the former Police Commissioner of New York City, serving under Rudy Giuliani from 2000-2001. He was nominated for Secretary of Homeland Security by George W. Bush in 2004, but withdrew his acceptance of the nomination after it was reported that he hired an illegal immigrant as a nanny. On Nov. 9, 2007, Kerik was indicted on charges that include tax evasion, bribery and conspiracy.
