Baylor University Founders

The Republic of Texas chartered a Baptist university in 1845, which established Baylor University. The three founding fathers of the school were Reverend William Milton Tryon, Judge R.E.B. Baylor and Reverend James Huckins. In honor of the founders, the Founders Medal was established as an award given to people who have contributed significantly "to the life and future of the university."³
