Guide Note: Basset Hounds are a long, low, scenting hound of French ancestry. They have short legs and sometimes require assistance getting into cars since they are not good at jumping. The long ears of a Basset do not allow good circulation of air and are prone to infection. Owners should clean their dog’s ears once a week and the Basset’s droopy eyes should also be kept clean of debris and nails trimmed once or twice monthly. Basset Hounds are lovable and friendly, calm, good-natured and affectionate but also sensitive and stubborn in nature. They along well with people and other dogs and pets and are good with children. Basset Hounds love to be a lap dog and do not make a good guard dog due to their friendliness.
