Beginning in 2008
On August 20, 2008, baseball umpires and management agreed to start using instant replay during the 2008 season.2 Commissioner Bud Selig was initially opposed to instant replay, but has since softened his position. The decision to use replay was made to prevent games from being unfairly decided on questionable home run calls.1
