British painter, comic book artist and writer Barry Windsor-Smith gained notoriety as a comic book artist after working as the original artist on Marvel Comics' Conan the Barbarian from 1970 to 1974.1 Although he was often not officially credited, Windsor-Smith not only created the artwork, but also wrote many of the stories for the comics he worked on.2

Early Career
In 1974, Windsor-Smith left the commercial comic book industry and founded his own graphic arts publishing company, The Gorblimey Press. He returned to work for Marvel Comics in 1984 and was the Creative Director of Valiant Comics publisher from 1991-1993.
