Baby In The Oven
Urban legends have circulated in the past concerning mothers putting their infants into ovens. Since 2003, several actual instances of this crime have been reported:
- 2005: Dayton, Ohio's China Arnold is charged with placing her one-month-old daughter, Paris Talley, in a microwave. The baby dies of internal burns. The initial case is declared a mistrial in February 2008—Jury selection for the retrial begins in August of the same year.
- 2007: Arkansas man Joshua Mauldin is charged with placing his two-month-old daughter, Ana Marie Mauldin, in a microwave. The baby survives and is placed in foster care. Mauldin's insanity plea fails—he is sentenced to 25 years in prison on March 26, 2008.
