The Australian cattle dog is a medium-sized breed of herding dog from Australia. They were originally bred for controlling cattle, as they are energetic, intelligent and need a high amount of activity. The breed was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1980.

Health Problems
Australian cattle dogs have been known to suffer from hip displaysia. Similar to other white dogs, Australian cattle dogs that are born completely white may be blind of deaf. They may also face a variety of cancers and retinal atrophy.
Sports or Activities
Much like their original intention, modern day Australian cattle dogs are often used for herding and protecting cattle. They require substantial daily exercise or may burn off their excessive energy in destructive ways. They may also be naturally aggressive and unless they are properly disciplined they may be a poor choice for families with children.
