Astro Boy
Astro Boy is the
CGI film adaptation of the popular comic and cartoon series created by
Osamu Tezuka in 1952. The eponymous character is an android child, spurned by his creator, who fights evildoers and android-haters, and seeks personal acceptance. The character is a
Manga icon and one of the first
Japanese comic characters to achieve recognition outside of Japan. Though a staple of children's entertainment for half a century,
Astro Boy bears weightier themes than most of its
American counterparts, including exploitation, parental rejection and even
racism. The film is directed by
Flushed Away's David Bowers, and produced by
Imagi Animation Studios.
