Assassin's Creed Walkthrough
Guide written by Jackb
Assassin's Creed Walkthrough Introduction
- This is a detailed walkthrough for the 2007 Xbox 360 and PS3 game Assassin's Creed. In this guide, you will find information on how to assassinate the nine chief targets of the game, along with tips on how to complete all of the sidequests and how to get all of the achievements. All button combinations are from the Xbox 360 version of the game.
Altair and his Abilities
- Before getting into the serious parts of the game, you should know all of the tools at your disposal.
- The first tutorial mission shows you some of these tricks, but here is a more detailed summary of each and every one.
- Altair is incredibly agile. His strength and speed are your main tools in the game, both for fighting and getting around.
- You also have the option of stealth though, which brings us to High and Low Profile movement.
Low Profile
- Simply moving the L Stick will make Altair walk. This is the most basic form of movement and, in combination with holding the B button ("gentle push"), it lets you move throughout the crowded streets without harming anyone or arousing any suspicion.
- You can hold down the A button while in Low Profile to use the "blend" ability. This will make you walk around like a scholar or monk, moving slower but lowering any guard’s suspicion even further.
- When you see a group of monks or scholars, simply press the A button once and Altair will automatically fall in step with them.
High Profile
- Holding RT while moving will automatically move Altair into the High Profile mode. He will begin to run, though bumping into people will make him stumble and fall.
- Guards will become suspicious of you when running, so be careful of using it when they are searching for you.
- Holding down the B button when running will initiate the "tackle ability", shouldering people away and making them fall over – this can be useful when guards are chasing you, as it will slow their pursuit.
- Holding down the A button while in High Profile makes Altair sprint, opening up a whole lot of other possibilities.
Sprinting in High Profile
- Much of the fun of the game revolves around Altair’s ability to "free-run." His movement is based on the real world sport of Parkour, letting him climb, run and jump freely.
- Hold down the A button while in High Profile mode, run towards a wall, and Altair will begin to run up and climb it.
- He can hold onto any small ledge available – window sills, bricks, rooftops, ladders, etc. This lets you move very swiftly by running across rooftops and choosing paths above the streets.
- In reality, you can simply hold the A button and continue run in whatever direction and Altair will take care of himself.
- You can customize this a little by tapping A to jump while running or hanging on a wall, letting you pull off some more complex maneuvers.
Fighting
Altair is not only highly maneuverable, but he's not at all bad with the blade as well. You essentially have three weapons available in combat, along with several abilities to use. The most simple attack is done by hitting the X button. There are many more effective techniques, however, which are detailed below.
Combo Kill
- Perhaps the hardest to pull off is the Combo Kill. Attack your opponent, and the moment your sword collides with theirs (marked by a sparks and a 'clang!'), hit the attack button again.
- If you pulled this off correctly a short animation will play. Sometimes it requires you to hit X again or you will simply knock the enemy to the ground.
- This technique requires a lot of practice, and it's not entirely useful on some of the tougher enemies.
Counter-Attack
- The Counter-Attack is the most spectacular and deadly technique you have. Hold down RT to bring up your defenses.
- When an enemy lunges at you, press A quickly. A short animation will play and you usually kill the enemy straight away.
- Certain tougher enemies - Templars or Assassination targets - will not be killed instantly. These will be knocked to the floor, for you to finish off or counter again.
- Mastering the Counter-Attack is necessary to become great at the game!
Long Blade
- The Long Blade is immediately available to you. It is generally quite slow and clumsy, though it is a good blade to learn to fight on. Your window of opportunity to perform Counter-Attacks or Combo Kills is significantly larger than the short blade.
- If you think you're in for a long fight, it can be the best weapon to use. You will receive stronger and faster Long Blades later in the game which add to its usefulness.
Short Blade
- The Short Blade should be your weapon of choice once you've mastered the Counter-Attack. You need to be a bit faster on the buttons to get the enemy, but it's well worth it.
- The Short Blade is immensely faster than the Long Blade, as well as being more graceful in combat.
- In addition to this, you can lob throwing knives mid-combat when the Short Blade is equipped. Simply hit the attack button when an enemy is out of your normal range.
Assassin's Blade
- The Assassin's Blade has a trademark style of combat which is a lot less flowing than Altair's other moves, but quite a bit more brutal.
- It should be noted that you cannot actively attack enemies with the Assassin's Blade - you can only wait until they attack or grab you.
- Counter-Attacks are always effective, meaning you will always instantly kill your enemy instead of knocking them to the ground.
- In the event that they grab you and you counter that, Altair can assassinate them when they are prone on the ground.
- You cannot block with the Assassin's Blade either. To use it, you must be very good or in the mood for a challenge.
- If you kill enough enemies with the Assassin's Blade, the remainder will often run in fear. This can be a very useful thing.
Other Abilities
Altair has several abilities which aren't often used in combat but can be used to effectively dispatch enemies in other ways.
Throwing Knives
- Throwing Knives provide a long range, instant kill solution for Altair.
- Equip your short blade, target an enemy guard or soldier with LT and then press the X button.
- This is most useful for eliminating guards who have spotted you on the rooftops.
- You can also effectively assassinate Informant targets from the rooftops with this technique.
Fists
- Your fists are only really useful in Interrogation missions. They work exactly the same as any other weapon, except you cannot use your Counter-Attack or Combo Kill.
- Hold down RT to block and quickly let go and press X to attack. Repeat.
Assassin's Blade
- Your Assassin's Blade has many uses out of combat. Walk up to a guard or target and press X to silently assassinate him.
- Run at the target and you will perform a High Profile assassination. You will use this to dispatch most of your main targets in the game.
Sub-Missions
Each Assassin’s Creed mission follows a very distinct formula. You talk to your order’s master about the mission ahead, you ride to the city in which your target will be found, talk to a fellow assassin, and gather information through various Sub-Missions before approaching the target himself.
Pick pocketing
- The pick pocketing icon appears on your map as a hand reaching for a package. Your targets will always be two or three men talking about their own mission to deliver a map or instructions.
- Approach at a distance and target one of the men using the RT.
- After the short conversation you will automatically lock onto the person carrying the goods.
- Follow him at a distance, using your blend ability by pressing the A button if necessary. The best time to draw near the target is shortly after he has stopped and looked around.
- Approach him with caution, and once your HUD has changed to show "pickpocket" as a possible action, press and hold the B button to reach out for the information he is carrying.
- This is contained in a small pouch on the back of the target's belt.
- When the pouch and your hand come into contact, Altair will turn around and the game will auto-save.
- This is simply a matter of practice! It may be hard at first, but later becomes a quick and easy way to gather information.
Interrogation
- The interrogation icon appears on your map as a fist. Your target will usually be a preacher or herald, someone proclaiming their message, or that of their master.
- Target the preacher to initiate his speech. The target will usually let out a spiel about your main assassination target before walking away.
- Follow him, as obviously as you like, and start to punch him once you are in a secluded area. He will fight back, though early in the game they are a pushover.
- You will have to dodge or fight any other Thug characters in the area – soldiers will stand and watch, but not attack.
- Altair will question the target once they have been sufficiently beaten and given in.
- They will tell you their secrets before Altair dispatches them, often wording his regret of the process.
Informant
- The informer icon appears on your map as a stick figure. This character is usually a fellow assassin dressed in similar clothes to Altair.
- He will ask you to do him a favor in return for information. Generally, he will ask you to assassinate between one to four targets – usually guards who are searching for him.
- Occasionally he will ask you to collect a bunch of flags, in the form of a rooftop race. Either case is a simple test of your stealth or movement skills.
- The assassinations are the trickiest missions as you will have to restart if you are seen. Either stay stealthy on the ground level, assassinate the targets in low profile and walk away, or stick to the rooftops and use your throwing knives at a distance before hastily making off in the opposite direction.
- Be careful, since the mission can still be failed even after all the targets are eliminated – you need to make it back to the informer without being chased by any guards.
- The flag races are reasonably easy. You have plenty of time, so move carefully and follow the icons around your map.
- They will always follow a loop formation, so if you miss one, make sure to return to get it.
Eavesdropping
- The eavesdropping icon appears on your map as a person speaking. This is by far the easiest sub-mission.
- Simply find your target, sit on a nearby bench and target them using the LT.
- A short conversation will follow, after which you can simply stand up and move away.
Optional Missions
- There are a few optional missions you can undertake in the world of Assassin's Creed.
- These don't always net you rewards, but will prompt an auto-save and can work to improving your maximum health.
- TIP: For every 15 missions you complete (optional or sub-missions) your health will increase by one bar.
Save Citizens
- Occasionally you will run across a citizen in trouble. This will usually be a woman or a monk/scholar type.
- Kill the harassing guards, and you will be rewarded in one of two ways: vigilantes, who will hamper the progress of any guards in the area, or a roving group of scholars to help you sneak around.
View Points
- View Points are tall buildings you must scale in order to reveal the location of Sub-Missions.
- You can tell which they are by looking for an eagle circling them.
- Often climbing one will reveal most of the others.
- Climb to the top of the minaret, perch yourself on the small ledge and press the Y button to synchronize and update your map.
- Do a leap of faith off the ledge into the bale of hay which will be conveniently waiting for you at the bottom.
Flags
- There are some hundreds flags in each city, as well as many within the Kingdom.
- NOTE: Collecting all of them in any given area will unlock an achievement in the Xbox 360 version, but nothing else in the others. It's up to you, really.
Templars
- Templars are the enemy of your order. They are guards, often standing in hard to find places, wearing their distinctive white robes with a red cross at the center.
- They are generally the hardest enemies in the game to kill.
- Again, they unlock an achievement in the Xbox 360 version, but nothing in the others.
Memory Block One
Tutorial
- Onto the game! Once the opening cut-scene has played out, you will be thrust into a tutorial.
- The tutorial will take you through some of the techniques I've showed you above and outline their general importance and use.
- Later on you'll be able to test and use each much more thoroughly. Simply follow the on screen commands for now.
The Temple
- Watch another cutscene. You might notice the screen fuzz-over at times.
- This "glitch" happens at crucial points of the scene - press any button to view it from another angle.
- This isn't necessary to your advancement, but it can unlock an achievement on the Xbox 360 version once you've viewed 85% of cutscene glitches.
- Use your GPS to find your find your way, using your High Profile Sprint to cross gaps.
- Climb up the ladder. Assassinate the enemy, watch the scene and then drop down the other side.
- Approach the Templars. Robert de Sable will overpower Altair.
- Time to flee! Use your Free Running to make it up the platforms and climb the walls. Well done, you've passed the basic test.
Fortress
- Follow your GPS markers to make it up through the village into the fortress.
- Al Mualim, your order's leader, resides inside the building at the top of the fortress.
- If you ever get lost, press start to bring up your map. This will most definitely be your greatest tool in the game.
- Head back down the to the village - you'll be asked to fight some Templars.
- Remember the tips on combat. Pull out your Long Blade and start attacking. You shouldn't have any trouble with these enemies. Keep following your GPS.
- Time will eventually fast forward to when the Templars have reached the fortress en masse.
- Climb up the ladder and watch from the platform. When instructed, do a leap of faith into the hay bales below by free running off the edge.
- Pigeons mark where these spectacular jumps can be done, or an abundance of droppings.
- You can usually push your luck on distance with a few of these jumps, but you don't need to here.
- Talk to your fellow Assassins before carefully following the beams of wood across the chasm. Take your time if you need to.
- Climb up the wall they lead to. Altair will automatically set off the trap and route the Templars.
- You have completed Memory Block One!
Memory Block Two
Present Day
- You are now playing as Desmond in the present day. Go into his room and eavesdrop on the professor's conversation when the prompt appears.
- You can go out and talk to Lucy. If you talk to her multiple times at every opportunity you can, you can unlock the 'Conversationalist' achievement for the Xbox 360.
- This is a good way to find out some extra information about what is going on.
- Go to your bed, sleep, wake up and get back into the Animus.
A Traitor!
- Al Mualim will demote you back to the lowest rank of Assassin for your performance in Solomon's Temple.
- All your weapons and gear, as well as a lot of your abilities, will be taken away. Time to earn them back.
Investigation
- Time for an in-game tutorial in investigations.
- Simply follow your GPS between targets to start each one. Eavesdrop on the first target to learn about the basketweaver involved with the traitor.
- Follow your GPS to track down the basketweaver. You will have to pickpocket him.
- Use the technique described earlier. This is simply a matter of practice. The letter will tell you where the traitor resides.
- You will find the traitor is the target for an interrogation mission. Follow him and beat him up.
- You will take him back to Al Mualim. You will get your Long Blade and Assassin's Blade back.
Damascus Awaits
- Walk out of the fortress to take a quick tutorial in combat if you like. Otherwise, head to the front gate of the village and jump on a horse.
- Follow your GPS to the symbol that looks like some hills. This will take you to the Kingdom.
- Keep following your GPS to the tower not far ahead of you. It will be marked by an eagle symbol.
- Climb this for a bit of practice in free-climbing, as well as a quick tutorial about viewpoints. Once you have synchronized the viewpoint, you can do a leap of faith into the hay stack below.
- All the viewpoints in the Kingdom will now be shown - these aren't necessary, but completionists might want to take some time later to scale them all.
- To make it to Damascus you will both have to follow your GPS and use your pause screen map, since there is no direct route to the city.
- Occasionally you will also come by a small obelisk or pole with a sign pointing you in the right direction.
Tamir
- You have three options once you have reached the city gates. This goes for all cities.
- You can either fight your way in, usually against four to eight guards, blend your way through, or climb through.
- Simply try and walk through to start the fight.
- To blend, find the Save Citizen symbol on your map, kill the guards and talk to the scholar. You will now have an easy entrance for any return to the city.
- Otherwise, have a look around the gate's walls and any nearby platform if you wish to free-climb in.
- Your first real mission will begin in the Poor District of Damascus. To begin, you must head to the Assassin's Bureau. This is marked on your map by the triangular Assassin's Creed logo.
- Enter through the hole in the roof. Keep in mind that you can do other things on your way to and during your mission.
- NOTE: You must scale a viewpoint at some point - there are nine within the city of Damascus.
- NOTE: You will also find twelve Save Citizen missions, which can help you gain extra bars of health as well as practice in combat.
- After gaining permission to investigate, start to scale viewpoints and find investigations to undertake.
- TIP: There are a total of six, but it is only necessary to undertake two. You can do all six if you wish, which will contribute to a larger health bar.
- Scaling the viewpoints will reveal two pickpocket missions, three eavesdropping missions and one interrogation. The eavesdropping missions are by far the easiest, but take the time to try them all to familiarize yourself with each one.
- You will learn that Tamir is gathering a lot of weapons and talking to a lot of merchants. A few tips will also be scattered in your investigation, including how to enter his marketplace and how to use citizens to your advantage.
- Once you have completed the investigations to your satisfaction, head back to the Bureau. Speak to the leader and take the feather he leaves you.
- Leave the Bureau and follow your GPS to Tamir.
- A short cutscene will play as Tamir murders one of his merchants.
- Use 'Blend' quickly once it is over.
- Walk up to Tamir when his back is turned, equip your Assassin's Blade and take him out. Another cutscene will play, this time in a sort of hazy environment. This is Altair's time to chat with his victim. Note that the glitches still appear in these cutscenes.
- Time to run! The guards will immediately start chasing you.
- The best way to make it out is to take to the rooftops as quickly as possible. Find a way up and run towards the Assassin's Bureau.
- When you are no longer in direct line of sight (your Health Bar is flashing yellow and not red), find one of the curtained boxes on the roof (a roof garden) to run into.
- Wait it out for a little while and you will return to Anonymous status.
- Tell the Bureau leader of your success once you have made it back. Well done!
Memory Block Three
Present Day
Do the usual, talking to Vidic and Lucy before going to bed or jumping into the Animus.
A Choice
- Al Mualim with promote you to rank two. You now get your Short Blade back, as well as Counter-Attack and Combo Kill abilities.
- This will make your life a lot easier, and longer. You can now choose between Acre or Jerusalem.
Acre Awaits
- Head to Acre in the same method as you made it to Damascus, using your map and GPS.
- Once you've reached the gates you can enter your desired way - by climbing, blending or fighting.
- Scale the first viewpoint you come to, and head to the Bureau, scaling any others in your way.
- Free-running across the rooftops is still the best way to get around, just watch out for archers on the roofs.
- You can assassinate these guys fairly easily, or just run past them quickly.
- You have another six options once you have started your investigation: There are two informers, one with a flag collecting race and the other with a single assassination target, one interrogation, two pick pocket missions and one eavesdropping mission.
- Take your pick, learn about Garnier's preoccupation when dealing with patients, some of his guards are absent, and a connection between him and your next target.
Garnier de Naplouse
- Go to the Bureau and collect your feather. Follow your GPS to the Hospitalier fortress.
- There is a ladder that will let you get onto the roof, but be careful of the archers up here. You can take them out if you wish.
- Drop down into the courtyard to trigger the first cutscene. Garnier will abuse a patient and break his legs. You will learn that the hospital is not a very nice place.
- Follow Garnier by using your blend ability, or let the nearby Scholars walk you through.
- Use your Assassin's Blade while Garnier is standing still or has his back turned to you.
- Escaping from here can be quite hard. Your best bet is simply to break off from any guards and make for the rooftops at your first chance.
- Head straight to the Bureau, making sure to jump in a hay stack or roof garden on the way. Tell the leader of your success, and choose to return to Al Mualim.
Jerusalem Awaits
- Al Mualim will promote you once more, rewarding you with the throwing knives and the tackle ability. Throwing Knives will greatly help you in dealing with rooftop targets. If you are running low (you only have five to begin with) pickpocket one of the 'thug' civilians. These are the burly looking men with pouches on their belt.
- Make your way to Jerusalem as you did with the other cities. Get into the city however you like - you know the deal by now.
- Scale the first viewpoint in the Rich District of the city and head to the Bureau, scaling whatever others are on your way.
- You have one assassination informer, one flag informer, one interrogation mission, two pickpocketing missions and one eavesdropping mission. Scaling viewpoints will reveal each of these.
- NOTE: You'll need to complete at least two, or all of them if you like, and then collect your feather from the Bureau.
Talal
- Follow your GPS to a group of guards blocking your way. You can either fight these men or distract them.
- Climb up the nearby ladder and use the "push" ability in high profile to throw the guard off the roof.
- The guards will walk over to his body, allowing you to jump down behind them.
- Keep following your GPS into a small doorway. A cutscene will play, and you will be trapped in Talal's warehouse.
- Make your way into the light, as he tells you, and kill the soldiers he sends to you. Run up the ladder and begin the chase after him.
- Keep your Assassin's Blade equipped. You should be pretty good at free-running by now.
- Keep up the pace and you should catch him before long. Watch the cutscene and then stick to the rooftops to evade the guards that chase you.
- Return to the Bureau as usual, and then choose to return to Al Mualim. Well done!
Memory Block Four
Present Day
- Talk to Lucy for a while. Head back into your room and check your cupboard for an access code which will let you exit your room.
- Walk up to Vidic the next morning when his back is turned to grab his pen - this will let you access his computer later on. Jump into the Animus.
Al Mualim
- You will be promoted one more rank, gaining the 'Catch Ledge' and 'Grab Break' abilities. Catch ledge is extremely useful, as it will let you quickly descend buildings without taking damage. It can also be used to save Altair if someone hits him while climbing. Hit the B button while falling to grab the nearest ledge.
- Grab Break works in the same way as Counter-Attack does, except for when the enemy grabs you. Practice this in the courtyard.
- You now have the choice to head to either Damascus, Jerusalem or Acre. Take your pick.
- NOTE: This time you can warp directly to the city once you hit the portal to the Kingdom, saving you a lot of pain and trouble. You can still enter the Kingdom if you wish, though.
Back to Damascus
- Enter the city and head towards the Rich District. This time you will have to find a viewpoint yourself, which is no trouble. Simply look for tall buildings with an eagle above it. Scaling one will mark all the others on your map.
- Head to the Bureau if you like - you will gain some information on where to look, and some extra dialogue, but you should be able to start it simply from scaling your first viewpoint.
- NOTE: This time you need to complete at least three investigations. The guards have become a bit tougher, but they shouldn't be much trouble. You have two eavesdropping missions, one assassination informer, one flag informer, one pickpocket mission and one interrogation. Take your pick, and head to the Bureau to get your white feather.
Abu'l Nuqoud, Merchant King
- Follow your GPS to the large Palace the Merchant King resides in. You will have to sneak past some guards using either a distraction of some sort or your free running skills.
- Blend when you get to the gate and walk into his courtyard. Abu'l will make a speech, unfortunately poisoning all his guests at the same time.
- Run up the ledge on the right of the courtyard and then climb up through the arched entrance.
- TIP: You can either turn around, jump across the poles and onto the balcony, or make your way all the way around the courtyard, killing the archers as you go.
- Another chase assassination follows, similar to Talal. Use your Assassin's Blade to end him, and do the usual rooftop escape to the Bureau. Return to Al Mualim.
Back to Acre
- Al Mualim will promote you, giving the Regain Balance and Dodge abilities, as well as a new Long Blade which will do more damage.
- Head down the village and warp to Acre. You will be investigating the Rich District this time. Either head to the Bureau or find a View Point in that district to get started.
- NOTE: You have three pickpocket missions, one flag informer, one assassination informer and one interrogation. Complete at least three, then head back to the Bureau and collect your white feather.
William of Montferrat
- Follow your GPS to the target, William of Montferrat. When you get close to the fortress a cutscene will play, a rather vocal meeting between William and King Richard. William will return to the fortress.
- You should be able use Blend to walk straight in, otherwise there is the possibility of climbing the walls.
- NOTE: If you used Blend to get in you will have to climb the ladder in the main square.
- Head to the roof, take out any suspicious guards with throwing knives or otherwise break their line of site.
- William is in the back corner of his fortress yelling at his soldiers.
- Walk along the awning type ledge against the wall and get behind him. There is a little platform a short drop below.
- TIP: You can try your luck at a jumping assassination here, but it requires absolutely precise timing. Have your Assassin's Blade equipped and jump towards William from the ledge. Keep hitting X and you should manage the kill.
- If you think this is too risky, you should be able to quietly drop behind him and take him out. The entire fortress will be onto you now.
- TIP: If you're confident in your skills, you can unlock an Xbox 360 Achievement by fighting a large number of enemies - this is probably your best chance. Use your long sword for the greater defense.
- If you would prefer to run, then jump back up where you came from but quickly head the other way once you're on the rooftops.
- You should be able to find your way onto the fortress wall, and from there follow it around to a few leaps of faith which should clear your status.
- Return to the Bureau, shaking off anyone else if you're seen again, and then return to Al Mualim.
Back to Jerusalem
- Al Mualim will promote you once again, letting you hold more throwing knives. Head down the village and warp to Jerusalem. Enter the city in your preferred way, and either go to the Bureau or head straight for the Poor District.
- NOTE: Scale a viewpoint to reveal the others as well your investigation missions. You have two pickpocket missions, two assassination informers (both of which are quite tricky - take your time), one interrogation and one eavesdropping mission.
- Be careful as the guards are getting noticeably stronger by now. Once you have completed at least three of these, head back to the Bureau and grab your feather.
Majd Addin
- Your target is holding a public execution. You can either climb into the execution square or use a group of scholars to make it past the guards.
- Join the crowd while holding blend to remain anonymous. During the cutscene two people (who you may have eavesdropped on earlier) try to assassinate Majd Addin but are swiftly killed. The guards will be on high alert.
- TIP: The stealthy and rather ridiculous way of killing him is by joining the group of scholars in the back corner of the square who will walk you onto the platform. When Majd Addin draws close, you should be able to blend next to him and assassinate. More likely you will draw his attention or that of his guards first though, so be prepared for a fight.
- Fighting with the Assassin's blade might be hard against so many targets, but pushing Majd Addin over and then using it on him while he is prone is a good strategy. Otherwise keep up the fight long enough and you will automatically take him out.
- Run back to the Bureau! Resistance will be quite high, so watch yourself and try to lose your targets quickly. Return to Al Mualim when you make it back.
Memory Block Five
Present Day
- Chat with Lucy for a while. Head back to your room but don't go to bed - use the code you got from your cupboard earlier to head back to the Animus.
- You can take Lucy's access pen which you can use to look at her emails later. If you took Vidic's you can check out his now. It will reveal some information about the story in a rather cryptic way.
- Head back to bed and jump into the Animus the next morning.
Acre Once More
- Al Mualim will give you another promotion and award you with the Defense Break maneuver. This is at least on par with the Combo Kill for how difficult it is to reliably pull off. Use your step technique and then quickly attack to knock your enemies defense away. You should be able to get the hang of it with practice, but it isn't necessary.
- Warp to Acre, either heading to the Bureau or straight to the Middle District to begin your investigation.
- Once again there are no View Points marked on your map, so look for the eagle and scale one or two to reveal your missions.
- NOTE: There are two pickpocket missions, two rather hard assassination informers, one interrogation and one eavesdropping to complete. Head back to the Bureau once at least three of these are complete and collect your feather.
Sibrand
- Follow your GPS to the docks. Sibrand will be here, harassing a monk because he is dressed like you. He seems to have gone mad with paranoia since you've been assassinating all his chums.
- He will kill the man, put on a horned helm and head off to his boat. You have several entry points here, but only one destination.
- There are several jetties with either boats or poles to jump across at the end. One is guarded and you'll be pushed away, but simply jump at an angle from the dock to make it past them.
- Take your time and be careful, as you will instantly die if you fall in the water.
- NOTE: It is not unusual to retry this part several times.
- Hop along to the poles at the back of Sibrand's boat. There should be a taller one in the middle.
- Take out any guards who are suspicious of you using your throwing knives.
- From the tall middle pole, jump onto the back of the boat. You will see Sibrand walk up from time to time and randomly shoot arrows.
- Once he is turning away, pull yourself up onto the deck and quickly assassinate him.
- The guards will be on you, and fighting above the water is difficult, so run along onto the next boat and then onto land as quickly as you can. You will most likely need to stay and fight a few guards first.
- NOTE: This will be your hardest escape yet, as the place is swarming with guards and archers. Once on land, simply do your best to keep moving along the rooftops. Hopefully you find a roof garden in time and drop anyone who is chasing you.
- Head back to the Bureau and then warp back to Al Mualim.
Damascus Once More
- Al Mualim will promote you again, giving you a shiny new Short Blade which will deal a lot more damage. This should be your preferred weapon in most situations by now. Head down and warp to Damascus.
- This time you'll be dealing in the Middle District. As usual, head to the Bureau or straight to the District to find a viewpoint.
- NOTE: You will find two assassination informers, two pickpocket missions, one eavesdropping and one interrogation mission.
- Complete at least three and return to the Bureau to collect your white feather.
Jubair
- Follow your GPS to Jubair's Madrasah (an Islamic school). Find your way onto the roof and then walk down the stairs.
- You'll be looking over Jubair and his students burning books. Jubair will murder a man who argues with him before taking to the streets. This assassination is quite easy, but it will take some time as him and all of his students are marked as targets. Make your way to each target.
- NOTE: You can tell whether it is he or a student by using your Eagle Vision ability. Jubair will appear as gold, his students will be red. You can kill them, but it is not necessary. He will most likely be in a small enclosure surrounded by guards.
- Climb up the opposite side of the guards and drop down on the ground. Use blend immediately. You should be able to walk right up behind Jubair and assassinate him without any trouble. Otherwise you can attempt a jumping assassination from the ledge above him, but it is quite a bit harder.
- Start running. You should be able to make it onto the rooftops quite quickly from where you are.
- Lose the guards, return to the Bureau and warp back to Al Mualim.
Memory Block Six
Present Day
Talk to Lucy for a while, go to sleep, have a chat with Vidic and then jump back into the Animus.
Jerusalem Once More
- Al Mualim will talk for a long time before promoting you one final time. You will receive a new Long Blade which is quite a lot stronger, as well as the ability to hold fifteen throwing knives at once.
- Robert de Sable is your final target - the one you first encountered in the caves of Solomon's Temple at the very beginning of the game.
- Head down the village and warp to Jerusalem. Go to the Bureau first for a chat with the Bureau leader before taking the rooftops to the Middle District of the city.
- Find a view point - you should recognize the buildings by now, before heading on your investigation.
- NOTE: You have two pickpocket missions, two very hard assassination informer missions as well as an eavesdropping and interrogation. Tread carefully, as the streets are crawling with guards now your actions have become more obvious. Return to the Bureau once you have completed at least three of these missions.
Robert de Sable
- Take the white feather after a rather endearing talk with the Bureau leader. Follow your GPS to the cemetery and watch the ritual unfold. Be ready though - the Sheik will suddenly pipe up and call for the Assassin present to be apprehended. You were expected.
- Quickly run down the stairs when the cutscene ends.
- TIP: You can fight it out in the cemetery but you will have two archers raining arrows on you the whole time - apart from the occasional bout of friendly fire, these will not help.
- Robert and his rather tough guards will be fighting very well today. Equip your preferred weapon, which should be the Short Blade (it can pay to change mid-fight, if you judge the situation calls for it).
- Passing guards will join the fight, but shouldn't be as hard as Robert's men. Simply keep beating Robert if you can. This will take you a few tries likely - but if you are having too much trouble with the fight, try and make it onto a rooftop. The fall should help keep some of your enemies down or at least keep others from joining the fight. Use the Counter-Attack to your full advantage, as well as the occassional throw.
- But... once you have taken Robert de Sable down - it's not him! You might have guessed this already if you were paying attention enough during the fight to hear the rather feminine cries.
- Head straight to the Bureau. You will decide that there is not time enough to return to Al Mualim. Leave the city in whichever manner you choose and ride for the kingdom. Make sure you have a horse, in any case.
Arsuf
- Use your map and GPS to find your way there. Once you're in the new zone, simply follow the path. A battle will be raging in the background. Dismount your horse as you approach the blockade.
- TIP: Use your throwing knives (or save them for the coming fight) on the archers atop the tower. From here on in the game becomes a test of your combat skills.
- Make your way down the murky path and fight and kill every group that attacks you. It will be quite a few.
- Eventually you will make it to a gathering of King Richard the Lionheart and his men. Robert is among them. Watch the cutscene and begin the fight.
- A group of Templars will attack you - and they will fight well. Use all the tricks you can and beat them when they are on the ground to take them out quickly.
- Robert will step in. He is probably the toughest straight out fighter in the game. You should be able to deal with him if you made it through the Templars though. It could be close. Kill him.
Memory Block Seven
Present Day
- Speak to Lucy when Vidic leaves the room.
- NOTE: If you went through every piece of dialogue on the Xbox 360 version, you should receive the 'Conversationalist' achievement. You should also have the 'Hungerer of Knowledge' achievement if you have been paying attention to the glitches throughout the game's cutscenes.
- Use the bed, wake up the next morning and return to the Animus.
Masyaf and the Master
- Head up the hill towards the fortress. A group of Masyaf guards will start acting strangely and attack you. Kill them, and then the second group that appears to combat you.
- Your friend from Jerusalem will bring a group of still-sane Assassin's to help you out. Make your way towards the Garden behind the fortress. Move through the crowd gathered outside however you wish.
- NOTE: Al Maulim will summon illusions of the nine men you killed - they can still hurt you, but they will not be as hard as their real life counterparts. Finish them all off.
- TIP: Al Mualim will summon up clones of himself. You can either fight them all, which will usually mean hitting his real self before too long, or use Eagle Vision and fish out the golden target.
- Now you will face him in one on one combat, though it isn't entirely fair. Use your Short Blade or possibly Assassin's Blade. Counter his moves and he will disappear, as well as drain your health bar.
- When he reappears track him down and focus on his first attack as this can kill you - once you've hit him your health will return.
- Continue this and eventually you will automatically end his life. Well done!
Loose Ends
- You will return to the present day. Desmond will realize the Animus has somehow bestowed Altair's Eagle Vision on him. Look around if you wish, there are a lot of symbols which are prominent in many popular conspiracy theories. The internet has information on their specific use in-game, however. Walk into Desmond's room and use Eagle Vision on the wall behind his bed to make the credits roll. These are very long.
- Watch them though - afterwards you can access Vidic and Lucy's computers if you took their access pens, and receive some interesting information. Finally, jump back into a random memory on the Animus and do something that will save your game, even if it is only watching the opening cutscene to a Memory with Al Mualim. This will mean you don't have to sit through the credits again and can play any memory over without any fuss. Congratulations!
