Apolinario Mabini

Apolinario Mabini became the first Philippine prime minister after the struggle for independence from Spain. This made him 2nd in rank to the revolutionary President Emilio Aguinaldo. Both of them were eventually captured in March 1901 by U.S. troops.1

Political Climate
In 1898, the Filipino revolutionaries won their independence from Spain. Apolinario Mabini served as prime minister under the fledgling administration of President Emilio Aguinaldo later the same year. His government service is marked by the Philippine-American War.4
Achievements
During the revolution against Spain, Mabini functioned as a top adviser to then General Emilio Aguinaldo. He wrote many decrees and was a major figure in drafting the first Philippine Constitution.5
