Anxiety is a normal part of life but when it becomes excessive then it is an anxiety disorder. There are different types of anxiety disorders. The symptoms can range from an uneasiness to extreme fear depending on the disorder. Having an anxiety disorder can cause a person to discontinue activities in everyday life. Anxiety disorders are considered the most common of all mental disorders.

Causes

Researchers are unsure of the exact cause of anxiety disorders but it is believed to be tied to genetics, brain chemistry, personality and events that happen in life. People with low self esteem and poor coping skills are more likely to get an anxiety disorder.

Treatment

Many people think that an anxiety disorder should be overcome by pure will power but in reality you can not just will these disorders away. However, there is effective treatment for anxiety disorders. Treatments will vary depending on the type of anxiety disorder. In most cases psychotherapy and medications are used.
