Andrea Curry-Demus
Andrea Curry-Demus was arrested after she lied about giving birth prematurely. Initially she was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and other minor charges.
However, on July 18, 2008, police found the body of 18-year-old Kia Johnson in the apartment of Curry-Demus. 1 The body's hands were duct taped together and her uterus had been cut.2 On June 20, 2008, Demus was charged with criminal homicide kidnapping and unlawful restraint.3

Faking Childbirth
Demus called paramedics on July 16, 2008, telling the medics that she had given birth prematurely. The infant's umbilical cord was still attached.
West Penn Hospital, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, notified police after hospital tests proved she was not the baby's natural mother. She later told police that she bought the baby from a woman only known as "Tina" for $1,000.6
She was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and police are investigating to find the infant's natural mother.4
Demus History of Baby-Stealing
In 1990, Demus was accused of kidnapping an infant from a children's hospital. Additionally, around the same time, she was charged when she stabbed a woman in an alleged plot to steal an infant from a home in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania.6
