Before the Oscar ceremony, Amy Ryan expressed her gratitude on The Oprah Winfrey Show that she had "professionals" helping her pick a dress. She said that deciding on what to wear should come naturally: "when you see it, you know it, it feels right."¹

Though some red carpet critics thought her dress was "safe,"² Julia Turner of Slate Magazine wrote that Ryan looked "amazing, channeling early-'90s Jodie Foster."³
