American Axle Strike

Guide Note: The American Axle Strike arose after 3,600 union workers from five different American Axle plants left their jobs after finding out their wages could be cut from $70 per hour down to $20-$30 per hour and that their benefits packages would be cut as well. The United Automobile Workers demanded that they be allowed to see American Axle's financial records but company spokesperson said American Axle, "provided the union with all the information they are entitled to receive." At this time an agreement has been reached between the UAW and American Axle that will gradually cut worker's wages over time. The agreement, however, does ban any plants from closing and allows workers to still have a substantial benefits package.
