Amanda Bynes

Amanda Bynes is an American film and television actress. She is also a former show host on Nickelodeon. She rose to fame starring in her own hit sketch show The Amanda Show.

Background

Amanda Laura Bynes was born in Thousand Oaks, California on April 3, 1986. Her parents are Lynn and Rick Bynes. She also has an older sister Jillian, and an older brother, Tommy. Bynes considers herself to be Jewish, but not that religious.

Early Career

Bynes attended a comedy camp where she was taught as an actress by Arsenio Hall and Richard Pryor. She began professionally acting when she was seven years old, appearing in a television commercial. She appeared in a number of off Broadway shows.

After attending acting classes, in 1996 Bynes was cast as a regular in Nickelodeon's All That and Figure it Out. She stayed with All That until the show ended in 2000.

Film Work

In 2002 Bynes made her film debut on the movie Big Fat Liar which also starred Frankie Muniz. The first time she starred in a movie solo was in the 2003 movie What a Girl Wants. Bynes starred in the comedy She's The Man in 2006 which was based on William Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night, or What You Will. In 2007 she was cast in Hairspray as Penny Pingleton, which was based on the musical.

Other Work

From September 20, 2002, to March 24, 2006, Bynes starred alongside Jennie Garth in the television sitcom What I Like About You, which followed the life of two sisters living in New York City.

Fashion Line

In 2007 Bynes signed a five year deal with Steve & Barry's and launched her own fashion line Dear on August 16, 2007. The fashion line includes clothing and accessories.
