Alton Ellis Dead
Reggae singer and the "Godfather of rocksteady" Alton Ellis died on October 10, 2008, in a London hospital. According to his family, Ellis died peacefully at the age of 70 after a long battle with cancer.1

Godfather of Rocksteady
Ellis began performing in the 1950s in his native Jamaica. After moving to the United States in the 1960s, he released his first two albums, Mr Soul Of Jamaica and Sings Rock and Soul in 1967. Ellis released perhaps his most popular song, "I Am Still In Love," in 1977 on his own record label. Following a stay in Canada, Ellis moved to London, where he lived and performed up until August of 2008.2
