The Battle of the Alamo was a brief fight between military forces of Texas and Mexico during the Texas Revolution in 1836. The Alamo is now a tourist attraction and historic landmark, and the fight for the Mission, waged by a small collection of hopelessly outnumbered troops, has become a source of pride for native Texans.

Significance to Texas Revolution

Though the Alamo was eventually taken by Mexican forces, the defense of the mission was integral to the eventual victory of Texas over Mexico. During the nearly two-week timespan of the battle, Sam Houston (one of the leaders of the revolution) was able to gather the necessary resources to eventually achieve the decisive victory Texas needed at the Battle of San Jacinto. It was during that battle that the famous phrase "remember the Alamo" was coined.
