Adrienne Shelly was an American actress, writer and director, who was murdered in 2006. Her breakthrough roles were in the 1989, movie The Unbelievable Truth, and the 1990, movie Trust. She appeared in many different movies in the 1990s, but segued into directing films like the 1999 movie I'll Take You There, which she also appeared in.
Shelly's other movie credits include Dead Dog, Revolution #9, The Sea, Searching for Debra Winger, Factotum and, of course, Waitress.
In addition to her movie credits she also appeared in several television shows, including Law & Order, Rock the Boat, Oz and Homicide: Life on the Street.

Her Death
Adrienne Shelly was found dead on November 1, 2006, by her husband. At first authorities believed her death was a suicide, based on how she was found. However, evidence at the scene and a confession from a Ecuadorian illegal immigrant construction worker proved otherwise.
The 19-year-old construction worker, Diego Pillco, murdered Shelly after she complained about the amount of noise he was making in the apartment below hers. Shelly never knew that her last film, Waitress debut at the Sundance Film Festival. At the time of her death she left behind, not only her husband, but a two-year-old daughter, Sophie.
