Guide Note
A Raisin in the Sun is a television movie based on a 1959 play of the same name. It was originally broadcast February 25, 2008, on ABC Television.1 The movie focuses on an African American family living on the Southside of Chicago. While the entire family dreams of moving out of their apartment, they all have different ideas of how to spend a $10,000 insurance check. The title was inspired by a Langston Hughes poem about how dreams that are put off dry up like raisins in the sun. A Raisin in the Sun stars Sean Combs, Phylicia Rashad, Audra McDonald and Sanaa Lathan, all of whom reprised their roles from the 2004 Broadway revival.2
