Guide Note: Each football season, the AFC Championship Game is held to determine which one of the 16 teams in the American Football Conference of the NFL will appear in the Super Bowl. In the 2008 version of the contest, the New England Patriots defeated the San Diego Chargers 21-12 to advance to play in Super Bowl XLII.
