Reno, Nevada's 7Seconds are one of the last remaining bands from the original era of American hardcore punk. Formed in 1980 by brothers Kevin Seconds and Steve Youth, the band became early promoters of the anti-drug, anti-decadence Straight Edge movement inspired by Washington DC's Minor Threat. In the late '80s, 7Seconds lost some longtime adherents by adopting a more melodic sound—alternately reminiscent of Husker Du and U2—years before such an approach would be dubbed "emo." The band subsequently returned to a speedy, unpolished hardcore sound, and continues to tour the United States, Europe, and Japan.
