700 Club

  • The 700 Club is a Christian news-talk show founded and hosted by televangelist Pat Robertson. The original of the show's name is a 1963 telethon in which Robertson asked 700 people to pledge $10.00 per month to support his Christian Broadcasting Network ministries. The program is aired in syndication throughout North America, and on the ABC Family cable network, reaching 90 million households each day.

The show is hosted by Robertson, along with his son, Gordon Robertson and 1973 Miss America Terry Meeuwsen. The 700 Club reports and analyzes news from an Evangelical Christian perspective—although other Evangelical groups have suggested that Robertson's statements and views place him outside of the movement's mainstream. Some of those views, as expressed on the program, include several suggestions that the 9/11 attacks were a form of divine punishment upon the United States; a 2004 assertion that God had chosen George W. Bush to be President, and a 2005 statement that was interpreted as a call for the assassination of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.
