  • 311 is an alternative rock band that was formed in 1990 and gained mainstream appeal with the release of their 1995 self-titled album 311, an album featuring the band's blend of hip-hop, reggae and rock sounds. The album hit No. 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart, giving the band added fame. With the success of the album, the band played on several television shows, including Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

    The band and its fans celebrate 311 Day on March 11 every year, with concerts usually taking place every other year on the date. On March 11, 2009, the band said it would hold an online live video chat. The band also announced it would release the album Uplifter in June 2009. A deluxe edition of the album will include a documentary about the concert in New Orleans that the band held on the 311 day in 2008.
